Winchester Survival Shotgun

I have read this entire thread and watched all the videos, and like many others I am doing the same now. I am going to go pick a cheap 12,16,or 20 gauge this week and try to make it as closely as possible look like the origional 20 gauge that started this thread.

One question though... If the firearm is already registered, but I dont plan on selling it since it wont be worth more than $50 (whats the point). Do I need to go through the hassle of getting it re-registered with the shorter barrel. I basically dont want to go through the hassle of doing this, but I dont want to get in trouble if I go to the local range. I will keep it to the over 18"barrel and 26"overall, but I dont want to get into legal problems if the ownership slip dont match the gun, and if I were to get approached by a officer or a grumpy range officer. I read earlier that someone said dont worry about changing the registration if you dont plan on selling it, but I feel though I would get hassled if I was approached and questioned about seeing the registration and it didnt match.

Altho it was/still is a hassle for me this time, I have done it many times before. Usually a phone call takes care of it.

However if I was ever in the possition that I needed to prove anything to anyone with an official title, I'm possitive it would be worth the PITA now as opposed to when It's confiscated by an legally ignorant cop or CO.

When I built mine I contacted the CFC to inform them of the changes. Because I did not want any hasles. They took the information down after asking me the 5W's and I received a call from the RCMP later that week about what I had done because I did the cutting and not a gunsmith. I answered the same questions again and they were happy with my answers and they issued a new registration card that said the exact same thing as the old one. The only difference was the number had a .02 instead of .01 that the original had but it is in the computer for the new barrel length and oal. Ten min. on the phone is better than 10 min. in the back of a squad car. :p

If your going to modify it take the time to register it.
It took about ten minutes on the phone for me. I registered it with an 18 inch barrel - so the barrel length is listed as "less than 470 mm" but is still classified as non restricted.

i tought about doing something like this,
only with an H&R handi rifle in 30-30

correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't doing a cut down on the stock of a handi rifle turn it into a restricted "handgun"?

Has anyone tried to bend the release lever abit to the side for some extra room. Even if it was bent 45* that would give you some recoil room before you hit blood.

Keep the barrel over 18.5 inches and OAL over 26" and you can do it to your .50 BMG if you want. (Better to make it a little longer just in case, obviously)

I am seriously thinking of chopping my 12 guage cooey, I am pretty torn.:yingyang:

WOW!! I really didn't think you could chop the stock off anything but a shotgun....it's amazing what you learn on this forum sometimes. Kind of a cool idea to do it with a rifle round. Aiming would be a little tuff I imagine.

This post inspired me to do the same. I believe I just closed a deal on a old 16 gauge SxS that I am going to do the same to. I will post the pics when Im done.

Heres my crack at a survival shotgun and everything required for a good weekend:

Bought an old cooey 12ga off of a fellow gun nut on here and have transformed it into this bad boy, the leather sheath that darrel has is also on its way.

Props to anyone who can tell me what thats a map of in the background as well.

Thats a cool idea, I don't have the tools to attempt something like that right now though, that mod was done completely with files and sand paper, and a skill saw, a router would've made things much easier to clean up.
