What are you guys using for a front sight?
I've got a snap-on plastic thingamajig that has a long-ish fiber-optic piece....
What are you guys using for a front sight?
So if my reg. certificate states the barrel length to be 470mm or greater can it be trimmed to that length? cause that's less than the 18" that the rcmp site lists as the min req. for a mod'd rifle or shotgun. Keeping in mind the oal must still meet the 26" requirement![]()
Not according to Google...
470 millimeters = 18.503937 inches
You can trim non semi-auto's down to 18 inches but it's better to leave it a bit longer.... 18 1/4" or so.
If you are under 470 you will need to verify it and get it registered as less then 470mm
I believe sawn offs cut off to a restricted length are actually prohib
If I brought just the barrel to a gunsmith could they permanently fix a flash suppressor to gain the length that is needed to fix my mistake???
Take a deep breath...
I don't know what you cut but if it's longer then 18" and it's not a semi-auto your fine.
You will need to verify it and change the certificate if the certificate is no longer accurate.
Yes they are, don't cut a semi below 18.5" and don't cut anything else below 18"
edit, are you talking overall length?
It is a single shot, hinge action, cooey 12gauge.
Barrel is 18 1/4 " or 465mm long.
So I believe since it is a shotgun barrel that is now under 470mm or 18 1/2 " long it is restricted... I have my restricted license but don't want the hassle of only being able to use at a range, as I was making a short backpacker rifle...
Think I should try to replace the barrel or get a flash suppressor permanently fixed to it by a smith in order to obtain that much needed 1/4" ? Could he (a smith) trim it a little shorter first so the barrel length with affixed F.S. still be 18.5"
Damn I'm pissed I did that.
Definition of a Restricted Firearm
According to the Criminal Code, a restricted firearm is:
* a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm;
* a semi-automatic, centre-fire rifle or shotgun with a barrel length less than 470 mm (18.5 inches) that is not prohibited;
* a rifle or shotgun that can fire when its overall length is reduced by folding, telescoping or some other means to less than 660 mm (26 inches);
* any firearm prescribed as restricted (including some long guns).
OK my heart can slow back down and my #### won't fall off now...
I was thinking it was a semi-auto or centerfire or shotgun ... But it's a semi-auto center fire or shotgun
So I am good but will I need to go to a verifier or do I just call the CFO. Can they email me the new cert. or do I have to wait for it in the mail?
I
The Criminal Code defines the following firearms as prohibited:
* automatics, including those that have been converted so that they can only fire one projectile when the trigger is squeezed;
* handguns with a barrel length of 105 mm or less, and handguns that discharge .25 or .32 calibre ammunition, except for a few specific models used in International Shooting Union competitions;.
* rifles and shotguns that have been altered so that their barrel length is less than 457 mm (about 18 inches) or their overall length is less than 660 mm (about 26 inches); or
* any firearm prescribed as prohibited -- These can be found in the fact sheet listing restricted and prohibited firearms.
Thanks for digging that up. I remember reading that part somewhere. I don't see a minimum barrel length mentioned for non semis. Just the overall fireable length. Is there another section somewhere where it states the minimum barrel length for a single or double barrel shotgun?
