WK180 Gen 2 builds

I’m wondering if anyone knows if any m16 style handguards will fit on these? I saw a picture of a first gen wk that had been built like a c7 clone, but have no idea what forend/handguard he used. I understand the gas block is a bit taller than a standard ar-15, but I would love to make a build like this picture I found on another gun forum

I am also looking for info on the handguards. Will it accept a non free floating handguard like the magpul? Assuming I had the correct parts (ie delta ring).

You would have to cut/modify the delta ring to clear the piston. You could use a clamp on style gas block to retain the handguard cap. As long as the the handguard clears the gas block and piston after that you should be good to go. I was thinking of doing something similar as I have an m16 m203 handguard kicking around. I would just have to figure out something to put under it.

Ah so the location where the gas tube enters the upper reciever is different on WK vs AR? Also off topic but where would one buy a railed clamp on gas block in canada? They are either too high and meant to be flush with a free float handguard rail or impossible to find..

Yes. The WK uses a higher position, which is pretty dumb.

It's a piston driven firearm so it has to sit higher. If you take the handguard off, you'll see that the piston and spring just manages to clear the barrel nut. AR's can get away with it because they are direct impingement and use a much smaller diameter gas tube. I believe someone was working on a DI 180 platform, but I can't recall who it was.

Sylvestre is distributing Jard's J180, which uses a gas tube to impinge a BCG that runs against 180 recoil spring along 180 dual guide rods, but also includes a gas key to use to push against a Stoner-style psudeo piston gas-ringed bolt, with the excess gas exiting out the ejection port in a pair of AR-15 style BCG vents when the bolt and assembly are forward.

SBI in Sherwood park is working on a gas tube fed DI-ish bolt carrier group and bolt that will work best with their Lynx 180 upper and lower, but is supposed to work with the MCR and Gen1 WK. Not sure if it will work with the Gen2 WK, or if they have a version in mind for that.

Yeah not a good look. I think everyone should break down and double check a rifle when they get it regardless. But it is not confidence inspiring as a whole.

Agreed. Any machine I purchase, I rebuild to familiarize me self with it, and check for any miss-assembled components. Good habit to get into, especially with firearms.

The YouTube Channel Guns, Gear, Memes has released a Gen 2 fit/finish overview and basic mag test with dummy rounds.

The YouTuber's Gen2 build is a well accessorized one, and worth a look for that alone.

Of most note from the video, apparently there's a wrong way to install the cam pin and bolt in the carrier, in that the unit will slide into the receiver almost to the chamber, but then lock up and take a great deal of finish-marring force to remove.

The presenter also did not like the way
he had to break his grip to use the bolt release. A YouTube commentator noted the bolt release can be flipped 180 degrees and still function fine, and this flipping was more easily accessible in that it configured the release closer to am AR-15's.

That commenter was I!

The bolt release flipped is a huge improvement IMO. The way it comes interferes with operation of the safety (at least for me and my ape hands)

SFRC shows two Gen2 in stock if anyone is looking to grab one. $1379.96 it's on my list but I just bought another T97 so I'm going to have to pass on these two. Sad face. But I hope someone here grabs em

Guns,Gears, Memes posted the following WK Gen 2 charging handle installation instructions to Reddit and YouTube:

Guns said:
Push out the rear takedown pin (the small divet next to the bolt release bar)

Push retention plate inward (small bar at the back of the receiver where the 1913 rail ends)

Hinge the action open, keep a grip on the end plate as its under spring pressure and will yeet across the room

Disengage bolt and remove (pull on it from the now opened bottom of the upper reciever till it unlocks from the chamber and can be pulled from the reciever)

Insert the front end of the charging handle (the end with the keg) into the opening on the rail near the end of the reciever

Push the handle forward until you hear a small click

With the bolt disengaged (cam pin will be in the upward position, if not sure firmly pull bolt head away from carrier group) re insert bolt and ensure it properly interfaces and engages with the chamber

Close rifle, lock plate, and takedown pin

Pew pew

Does anyone have any input on what foregrip/handstop would work best with the length of the 180? I have smaller hands so I was considering something like the magpul XTM since I don't want to add too much weight to the front end but also looking at an angled foregrip. Obviously, its going to come down to personal preference but wanted to get some advice before I burn all my ammo money on grips

BCM KAG is the KING of foregrips for rifles with long handguards IMO.
