Wk180c issues and problems

My month old WK has no upper/lower wobble, all screws are tight, accuracy is respectable, trigger is smoothing up new straight angle grip helps, no chambering problems, all my AR mags work if they are square notched, rail system takes all my mounts, handguard takes my QD sling mount.

I think all the newer builds have addressed previous issues.

All in all great value.

Great thread.

I've ran the Hera Mags and CPD RRA 10 round pistol mags both with no issues. Anyone try Pmags?

Yup, I have run a 5/10 gen M3 Pmag and never had any issues.

Its good to hear that most of the issues have been addressed. Maybe I should update the complaint/issue list and remove those issues that have been addressed/resolved.

As I stated before, my rifle has gone back for warranty work on the gas block.

I have to say that Kodiak's customer service is excellent so far. They sent me a shipping label and returned the rifle on their dime. Notified me that they have received it and that it would be about a week to resolve the issues. You don't get that quality of customer service with the big gun manufacturers.

Updated List of issues:

1. Chambering Issue - Resolved.

2. Magazine Issues - Seems to feed pretty well with most of the magazines - Resolved.

3. Charging handle gouging the raceway - Only present on a few rifles. No recent reports that this is still an issue.

4. Gas Block touches Hand guard - Only on some rifles. Others report this is not an issue.

5. Not a true Picatinny spec rail. Top of rail is to spec but sides are not. Some problem with EOTech sights, Aimpoint Pro, and plastic MBus had to be modified to work. -only an issue with a select few sights and optic mounting systems.

6. Some rifles appear to have a loose fit between the upper and lower received. I know this doesn't affect accuracy since barrel, receiver and rail are all on the same upper. This is a sore spot with me because (the manufacturer) made it a point on their youtube video that they had resolved the chronic AR15 rattle by installing a lug in the upper receiver that keyed into the lower to reduce the shake. -Some rifles have excessive wobble some not. There is a fix on one of the threads that uses an o ring to reduce this problem. Kodiak will not repair this under warranty.

7. Gas Block coming loose. Seen a couple of posts about this and it happened to me. Kodiak will make this right. Just send it back for warranty repair on their dime. Just a few have experienced this issue.

Most of the issues have been resolved or were confine to a few rifles.

So if you can handle a AR15 like black rifle that is non-restricted with a couple of minor bugs (i.e. the upper and lower fit may be a bit loose, and the rail won't accommodate every sight or optics mount in the plethora that are available) for under a $1,000 then this is the gun for you.

I'm up around 450-500 rounds through mine now. My gas block didn't contact the barrel when new, and hasn't moved yet. I see no gouging being done by my charging handle. Everything feeds/fires/ejects properly with all my plastic mags, but hiccups a bit with some metal ones; my shocking solution was to just use plastic ones. A couple of scope mounts didn't want to seat properly...so I didn't use them. :)

My favourite oft-heard complaint about this rifle is the upper/lower wobble. I've had a couple of Swiss Arms rifles over the years, and at least one of them had a much looser fit than this one. I commented on it...didn't belly-ache, just commented...and the fanboys rose up with their pitchforks and informed me that it didn't affect accuracy or durability, that I was a whiner, that only little girls worried about stuff like that and steely-eyed commando wannabes took it in stride.

So now, I have a rifle costing less than a third of what that Swiss Arms did, and this one has less wobble...but it still has some, and the masses are reacting indignantly. How dare Wolverine and Kodiak foist this piece of ill-fitting trash upon us? Why, I oughta....

For the record, IMHO this rifle is a better black-rifle buy, i.e. offers more value-per-dollar, than most; certainly more than any of its non-restricted black rifle competition. I was originally planning to shoot it a bit, and then sell it at a profit to some slathering CGNer who was long on cash and short on patience...but now, I actually think I'm gonna keep it for awhile. :)

ok , shot it for the first time today ... all 10 round lar 15 mags fed fine , the only issue the gun had was failure to eject , which of course would then cause a double feed , i thought a saw a post somewhere where someone used a diffent spring ? for the extactor , that kodiak had supplied in the little bag ... but no other spring in my little bag ... .. out of 100 rounds , about 30 failed to eject edit ... i think its an o ring i am meant to put under extractor ... seem to remember doing the same to my nea ar15 as well

UPDATED LIST OF ISSUES:

Only two minor issues remain on the list and the emphasis is on MINOR.

1. Picatinny (Type) rail. will not work with a couple EOTech mounts, plastic magpul MBus (Lite filling is required) and the aimpoint pro (needs another washer for the knob to clear.) Not a deal breaker.

2. Some movement between the upper and lower receiver fit. Most AR15's have this as well. No affect to accuracy.

Kodiak's customer service is the best I have ever experienced. Sent my rifle to Kodiak for a loose gas block. Less than a week turn-a-round time from moment I received a shipping label, to the time it arrived back at my door. Problem solved.

Bottom Line: Best Non-Restricted AR15 type black rifle on the market for around $1,000. Get a lot of rifle for your money. If you experience a problem, their customer service department will make it right and get it back to you pronto.

This Canadian beauty is a keeper.

Great thread thanks Cee-8 for your honesty,, have pounded 400 through mine no obvious issues Warne 30m mount with my leupold on it seems fine. Not a tack driver but don't believe that is what its intended, respectable and actually quite fun to shoot. The grip could be upgraded but that's for another day

I have had my 180 for about 750 rounds. I like the rifle for what it is....inexpensive non restricted plinker. I had chambering issues early on as mine is a low serial number so Kodiak sent me a shipping label and re-reamed my barrel. It was a 1 day turnaround and cost me nothing so that was nice.

Recently I had it out with some buddies and 4 rounds into a shooting session the gun jammed. My buddy handed it to me and inside the chamber was part of the piston rod. I took it home and tore it down and found the piston rod had sheared in half. Contacted Kodiak and they were happy to fix the issue for me. The only part that bothered me a bit was this time I had to pay shipping to them. It is what it is, and I still love the gun, I just hope I don't have many more issues because the $60 insured ride to Ontario adds up.

The piston rod sheared off and they made you pay for shipping? I don't see how that was your problem. Clearly defective tempering on the component. I have heard of pistons warping but never breaking. I may have to rethink the high praise I gave their customer service after that one. If I hear about anyone else having that issue with their piston, I may have to update the problem list yet again.

Maybe on my next range visit I will crank off the rounds to get the count up on mine and see if anything goes awry. Just so darn expensive for ammo.

Anyone else out there have a rifle with a higher round count that has experienced any failures like laker415?

Thanks for the information.

Making defective products should never end up costing the customer a single dime.
This is utter BS. Especially with the cost of shipping in this country.
They shrug it off as "oh well that's our policy" well change your ####ty policy I say.
I won't be dealing with them again for any reason.

The parts in the 180 dont seem to be heat treated or made of very quality material. The housing which the action rods slide through has two paper thin round holes and that part is definitely not heat treated. Bends out of shape easily.

My Extractor spring was very distorted, causing the same issue. Their O-ring trick did not help. So I took an AR15 spring, cut off 1.5 coils and she runs like a champ now.
I also added an o-ring to the slot lug which tightened up the upper/lower wiggle.

I was told by Kodiak that the AR15 extractor and ejector were the same used in the WK180C. Is this the case, or do they have to be modified to work?

Hey was wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I installed plastic FAB Defence 'iron sights' on my rifle. I'm having to crank the rear sight to the extreme right to zero the rifle. This indicates to me that either the sights are off or the barrel/handguard/receiver are misaligned. Anyone else experience this problem.

Don't have another set of irons to put on the rifle to see which is responsible.

Try the following:

Reverse both sets of sights (install them backwards at same location) - if you now have to crank them in the opposite direction to line things up its the sights.
If you don't have to touch them then it is the gun.

Why dont we start ANOTHER thread slinging mud at people who have worked hard on this project for more than a year trying to bring a high demand affordable product, only ti suffer a tireless barrage of ridicule from people who never made anything.

Travis Fickle gushed for days about how much he loved his gun until one mag didnt work and the it was total slam fest.

There is an endless parade of people crying about when they get their gun and as soon as they have been showing up now we demand they slow down, stop production and redesign?

Tough crowd. Makes you wonder why any canadian manufacturer would ever subject themselves to mob.
