would h&k be a good choice?

Tell me what the HK does that the Daniel Defense will not.

You're not trying to say that the Americans have the best SF are you?

OP if an HK makes you happy then go for it - but don't come on here asking for opinions and then get upset because people are giving them. Go ahead and spend you $4500 or whatever, but be prepared to be out-shot by people with more trigger time on vastly cheaper AR's.

I mean the lambo comment isnt an accurate comparison
To me an ar is an ar

This thread is funny, guy wants to buy an HK and is looking for feedback on the HK. People here tell him to buy something cheaper and a bunch of ammo to get trigger time as if it is some requirement he needs to earn to buy HK quality.

To the OP, Buy the HK, you will not be disappointed.

Has anyone recommended a Norc yet? I mean, if we are going to recommend OP get the cheaper, reliable AR, we might as well scrape the bottom of the barrel.

Can you buy a less expensive AR that will be reliable? Yeah. Does that matter? No. The HK will be an awesome rifle.
So in short, buy the HK. Mainly because I can't, and I like knowing that someone, somewhere, can cough up that kind of dough for an AR.

Bear Cat,

If you have the cash and want the HK, buy it and don't let people talk you into something else.

Buy the HK, you won't be disappointed...I own a lot of AR's and I still want an HK (I'd even give up some of mine to get one)...just holding out until the release of the shorty barrel to civvies...which may never happen...sigh...

If you can afford the 416 go ahead an pick it up very nice piece of kit. If you want quality besides the HK you can grab a top of the line new daniel defence for 2k to 3k also in that range are the Knights armament and BCM which are top quality goods with some cash for optics, accessories or ammo. If you do get the HK please post some pics and a range report.

Bear cat, just think this could be your picture that you post here

Bear Cat if you get the HK, this is what you could end up looking like in a few years.

Owning an HK "changes everything"

An HK MR223 latest version comes fully ambi you stated you are only going to buy one rifle, if this is true or if you mean one AR to rule them all. Then HK is the right choice, it's worth 4 colts and that includes Colt Canada. Sorry guys but this debate is old and we have over 10 years of data to prove it. Most of the other Brands out there can serve you well but for the money HK is worth it. It's not like you can buy a Scar or which would be a nice choice as well too. If anything I would consider picking the MR308 as well. Also I believe The shooting Edge has a 416 upper for sale as well for $5500. That would go for god knows how much more in the US right now.

Seals & Delta use it. They also use KAC as well. You won't regret it in the long run.

Just do it bro. LAV helped build the gun. That says it all right there !

Looks like we have a ninja on our hands.

Go have another bong hit and stop giving advice based on rifles you've handled in video games.

Outstanding rifle. Costs a pretty penny, and uses proprietary parts. It will serve you well. If you want it, just get it, you can't go wrong with a Hk

Hey guys I know very little about black rifles. Shot a handful of them and I'd like to get my own.

What is the civillian or canadian version of the hk 416? Or what would you guys suggest as a good semi auto rifle?

I will probably only ever get one. I say that now but it probably won't happen haha. Take me to school gents.

I'm usually in agreement with your posts Brian46 and while I do agree with your last sentence you need to re-read the OP's post, as in what is highlighted.

Judging by Bear Cat's first sentence getting some more AR trigger time would be of great benefit, not to mention knowing exactly what the rifle will be used for ultimately will help greatly in choosing the correct platform.

Knowing what you will be using this rifle for before making a substantial financial decision that could be close to or even more then $10,000 when all accessories including quality optics are all tallied up (that is if an expensive H & K AR rifle were purchased as some have suggested). This is the best advice I could offer other then just starting with any decent and affordable AR until you know exactly what you want (buy the extra AR you joke about first and then the ultimate AR second is what I'm saying here Bear Cat).

Ultimately if finances aren't a concern I (and likely most here) won't argue that an H & K AR rifle is an excellent premium high end product as it is ONE of the best AR rifles in the world, so if that's what your heart is set on by all means enjoy.

Saying that, many others have stated their are equally good and arguably better AR rifles then H & K when all factors are considered and like myself not everyone feels that a Piston AR rifle is actually better then a Direct Impingement AR rifle.

Some of the premium AR rifles mentioned in this thread may not be piston or have as many features as an H & K, but they are equally reliable, accurate, durable, easier to get parts and service for and all at a lower cost (a might add with easier resale too and by that I mean it's easier to sell a premium quality $2,000 AR rifle then a premium $4,000 AR rifle, if the OP ever wishes to swap platforms...).

Cheers D

Footnote: Stoner99 was once rehydrated in the field using HK Kool Aid, instead of saline

P.S. Thanks for the chuckle Enefgee.

Just trying to help the guy out, He is only ever going to buy one rifle he states and has been looking at HK, If he buys something else I can guarantee you he is still going to wonder if he should have got the HK and end up buying it down the road and selling the old one.

To the op, buy the one you really want so you save yourself the money and hassle of buying and selling. I have tried to buy something cheaper in the past and it just ends up costing more in the long run buying and selling only to end up with what I first wanted because I thought I could be satisfied with something else.
