Can buying a gun BE a mistake?? I think not!
Id think the extreme optic height over bore on the sl8s would be annoying for varmint hunting....
The Benelli MR1 may be a good affordable option for the OP
Wow never even heard of the MDR until now.... perty cool![]()
Just buy a Keltec SU16 from Irunguns. Its a good plastic gun. Cheap as well.
@ Ebola re the M1 Ordnance carbine:
Maybe just a dud? I got the paratrooper version (Auto Ordnance) this spring with the folding stock and it's got to be one of my favourite rifles. Granted I've only put 100 rounds through it, it's been solid, accurate, and becoming more reliable now as more rounds have went through it. Had several FTF in the first 75 rounds, but figure that'll just be normal break in over the first few hundred. Great iron sights and the .30 Carbine is a nice lively pistol calibre round. Overall a fun gun to shoot. I had numerous offers to trade for it among my local shooting group after they gave it a go.
NoWould it be a mistake to buy a Heckler & Koch SL8 .???
Magpul makes G36 magazines and with a small modification to either the gun or magazine they work in the SL8. The reliability of the mags system on the G36 is part of what makes it so reliable compared to other 223 designsThe SL8 has very few sources of aftermarket parts already, and its very difficult to find highly desired aftermarket items like a stanag magwel adapter already now.
Then you want an SL-8 if these are the only 4 rifles you are considering. The XCR-l, Tavor and Mini 14 rifles will all be horribly dissapointing to you if you ecpect any sort of target accuracy. Those 3 guns are good enough to hit a man sized target @ 400m, but not with any accuracy at all.
P.S. I know a lot of guys are converting their SL-8s with readily available air soft parts, I've seen a few good G36 conversions. One was on this site too.
what?
like...
what?
why dont you suggest to go buy a fisher price nerf gun while you're at it?
Yeah like the SL8 is not a Fisher Price. Have you ever held a SL8. I have its, far over rated, cheap and plasticy as well. Does it warrant the 2k price tag.. #### no.
Thanks for the info...I don't care about its weight. The weight is no problem since I hunt with a at that has 2 gun boots to carry my guns... I hunt deer with either a Springfield M1A ant weighs 12 lbs + with the mount and scope. My other gun I use for moose is a cz550 300 win mag and with its scope, it's over 10 lbs... I drive to my tree stand on my at and the weight seems to be fine when my guns are in a kolphin gun boot. If I go bushwacking up north, I will carry a good old light marlin 336 30-30. Around my house if I plan on walking to find a spot to wait for yokes, I take my light little Tikka T3 Lite stainlesss 243... I mainly want a semi auto accurate 223 for punching paper and occasional yote hunting...and if I get the sl8, the first-time thing I will do is get the stanag magwel adapter.
There's basically 4 rifles that I'm looking at...the H K sl8, the Robards xcr, a Tavor, and believe it or not the fourth gun is a Ruger mini 14 that I will get a tactical style stock like a tapco and since I'm a machinist, I will mill out the magwel and convert it to shoot the ar15 stanag magazines.
But I am leaning towards the H K sl8
