Yeah like the SL8 is not a Fisher Price. Have you ever held a SL8. I have its, far over rated, cheap and plasticy as well. Does it warrant the 2k price tag.. #### no.
I suppose you would prefer a 12 pound rifle made of steel for $800? What you think a rifle is worth means nothing since they keep selling at the price they are asking, obviously a lot of the firearms community doesn't agree with you. Sure I'd like it if they were less expensive but for the performance you get compared to more expensive options available I don't think it's an unreasonable price.
HK knows what they are doing when it comes to blending polymers and metal to create a reliable rifle that doesn't weigh more than it needs to. Sure we'd all prefer to carry an AR with us hunting but until our government pulls it's head out of it's rear end we're stuck with our non restricted options that unfortunately are usually heavy due to the long and heavy contour non restricted barrels.
Not sure what non restricted rifle you've ever held that didn't have "plastic" used in it's construction but it isn't a negative in my mind, it helps keep costs and weight down (even if we do get a little raped here with the non restricted tax).
Another option to consider for a non restricted semi auto hunting rifle is an AR180B-2. I love mine and while it's not as accurate as my ACR it does pretty well and is very light.
