Would You Carry A Pocket Pistol?

First - the Baby Browning in 25acp is plenty accurate at close range. I recall being able to hit a paper target at around 20 feet consistently - and I was maybe 10 years old and couldn't shoot. This was in the 70's when they were perfectly legal. And they are cute as hell. Of course, the design isn't that modern, and I might not pick it as my go-to pocket pistol, but darn they are cute.

Second - any gun is better than no gun. Drawing a gun stops most confrontations.

Third - for all those pooping on small calibers - more people in the US are killed with 22lr than any other cartridge. So they are effective. I cannot find the study right now, but essentially someone shot 3 times with 22 was as likely to quit/give up as someone shot twice with 9mm or 45acp. So, while not as effective as 9mm or 45acp, those 22lr, 25acp and 32acp are still PLENTY effective.

Fourth - I recall going to Milarm (Edmonton) as a kid and they had a compact revolver in 22lr that fit in a belt buckle. You pushed a button and the revolver popped out into your hand. Single action, 4 shots I think. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I guess wearing a revolver on your belt buckle isn't "pocket" carry though. But it was very cool. BTW - no blood ran in the streets despite them selling those to anyone with the $.

Fifth - for which pocket pistol? I really like the Seecamp - absolutely gorgeous and tiny. Fits easily in any pocket, and according to many reviews is perfectly shootable (although it has no sights, so it really is a belly gun). Comes in 32acp and .380. I think the waiting list is years long though.

I have handled the Keltec p32 and a Beretta 32 pocket pistol (can't remember the model, darn it - some sort of "cat") and both were surprisingly comfortable and seemed decently built. They have the advantage of easy availability and low cost - well under $500 and available in a small town sporting goods store in Washington State (so - available everywhere in the US). While not quite a pocket pistol, the sub-compact Glock G26 could fit in cargo pants and is a very handy pistol. I suppose the G42 in 380 would also fit in cargo pants.

Sixth - for regular, holstered concealed carry I believe the Glock G19 is the most popular choice in America, and it would be good enough for me too. Like any regularly holstered gun, it is WAY bigger than any of the pocket pistols. And it isn't cute.

I'm waiting for the belt buckle revolvers to make a comeback, although I guess if you don't live out west, it might not be socially acceptable to wear such a big belt buckle.

IMO, a gun should be carried in a properly fitted holster, not loose in your pocket or waist band. It would be kinda neat to have a pocket pistol though.

If you want something small, get an antique revolver. I'd love to have something like this:

Small single stack 9 like Walther PPS or Glock 43

Of course neither are available in Canada, nor is CCW going to be reality any time soon.

They really are marvels of engineering in that they designed and built such a tiny machine that works so well.

The first time my wife saw me holding it she was sure that it was not a real pistol.

I shot this rapidfire at 7 yards, one handed, not really looking at the sights just pointing at the centre of the 4 circles.

How would skinny jean wearers be able to conceal?

Only douchebags wear skinny jeans donchaknow?

In a jurisdiction where it is legal, if you take a windshield wash jug and cut a curved piece so that it fits into the back pocket of your jeans and matches the curve of your body, you can carry a surprising number of relative thin chunky metal objects without them printing through as long as you have the plastic shield between the object and your back pocket.

Carry in an urban area? Not really interested in that. To be able to carry while in the back 40 or while hunting, yep!

Could so use a like button.. but wilderness carry is all i'd love to see.. But.. I see no issue with open or conceal carry in urban areas.. comes down to what areas you live in.. and i'd more likely have to deal with a skunk then some a-hole threatening a life. given a choice conceal and carry would be best.. keeps the bleeding heart scared of their own shadow types at peace while giving you the peace of mind knowing that if the "what if" happened you could deal with it if it was the best option.

You'll wish you could/were when some crackhead is charging you with a knife in their hands! Always better to have something and not need it. Your attitude is what got CCW banned back in '77 way before I was born, save for the lucky 500-600 or so who have an ATC for civilians self defence.

I think you took my response wrong, I have nothing against CCW, but I just don't feel like carrying a gun around, I carry enough crap around in a day, don't need a gun too. Just a personal choice, if you or anyone else wants to carry, that is fine by me. I live in a rural place, so the chances of me being attacked by a crackhead on Main Street are less than getting hit by lightning. If I lived in a city it might be a different story. Sorry if I offended you.

Nope, right here in good ole Canuckistan. :)

Was in relation to former employment. Carried lots in street clothes.

NAA.

Ahhh :) I should've guessed it involved a badge!

I was thinking of a loadout for going to the US. Arizona or something. Still need a hunting permit though under federal law to carry. Unless they will issue a temp CHL to Canuckistanians lol

Ah. I misinterpreted but I can't stress enough the matter is only WHEN and not IF it happens. Sadly :(

My apologies. Comes with city living I guess.

Mr Ayoob recommends giving an extra 2 inches on the waist line and you may need a different cut of jeans too (depending). I'm leaning more towards a shoulder holster for CCW though. Carrying in the waistline takes practice and training. Plus you need some pretty small handguns to be comfortable as well and forget running! The Secret Service can conceal a full size P-90 under their jacket, have room for 4 spare mags, a baton, a radio AND a handgun!

Russian equivalent agents? The ones guarding Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev??? Have been known to carry full size AK's in their trench coats!!! They don't mess around in the Kremlin!

this is what i would carry - helps that i already own it.
10 rounds of Black Talons would do the trick i think.

good friend of mine in Texas carries 2 guns every day.
one on the hip and one on the ankle.
and he wears a suit every day all day.
that would be sooooooo neat.

practically for up here in Canada i would love to have wilderness carry.
for that id carry a 1911 converted to 460Rowland.
