WRAS 3-Gun, 2012 Shooting Schedule @ Spruce Grove

I didn't have any grief with the coupled LAR mags I have been using, unless it was their fault I kept forgetting to turn off my safety

on a side note to any 7.62 shooters,
http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/de...-L-Micro-Pistol-762x39-10-Round-Magazine.aspx

has 10 round lar pistol mags in 7.62 caliber, and you can get an adapter for most guns so they take the statnag mags.

I know wolverine has the cz one here http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/3824/BandT-AG-CZ-858-AR15-Magwell-Adapter.aspx for sure

and they carry the cz with the adapter pre installed. I mean in a perfect world canadian laws wouldnt screw sports shooters and we could all have 30 rounders, but this could be a way to enjoy your preferred gun without losing the competitive edge perhaps?

too bad there isnt a cz or ak pistol so we could just get those mags and do without the adaptor.

I ended up trading my 858 in for a 7.62 x 39 XCR when it became apparent that the B&T mag adapter mod was crap in the VZ. I wouldn't recommend the B&T adapter for anyone with a 7.62 VZ.

The XCR has been 100% reliable with the 10 rd. pistol mags and Czech surplus through about 800 rounds. It is a expensive, heavy pig, though a great way to shoot cheap ammo if you're stocked up with it.

Thanks for that info! Good to know I'm right in my not wanting to modify the 858 's in any way, lol... Again it comes to that price issue though. To me, it's just not worth thousands of bucks spent on an XCR, Swiss Arms, or an AR to be able to have 10 round mags to compete with. I'm just not that serious of a guy, haha... I really do like my cold war machines for their oddness anyway, so... mag change practice and stripper clip practice here I come!!! :D

On that note too, I love how light my 858's are!

(Someone asked earlier who was having problems with what mags and I'm certainly not someone who knows much about LAR mags, but it seemed to be the non-coupled ones. They just had problems getting the magazine to stay seated I think. Again, I know next to nothing about AR's... But someone else told me it has something to do with which type of LAR mag they were using? Some RA code or something? I dunno... hahaha! My mags are all previously used in Soviet Russia so they've had a generous shakedown and would have been crushed before making it to me, ;)

That may have been guys having trouble seating a full mag on a closed bolt. I saw that a couple of times last match. Shaving just a little bit off the follower will remedy that.

Check, I had that problem once - on the stage where we started on the roof with a closed bolt. I know better and my first move should have been to either pull back on the charging handle/lock open OR start with a PMag, of which I have plenty.

Reminder to self: I need to start carrying a few PMags in my loadout so I can change on the fly running to another station, rather than just shooting until I'm empty with LAR mags, where I might run out mid-station.

If you take some material off the follower legs you can get the LAR mags to hold 10.5 rounds. That makes them much easier to seat on a closed bolt.

Or just load them to 9 rounds.

I'm sure I saw feeding issues too from time to time and like it was mentioned before one guy's mag fell right apart. I guess I'm just more of a fan of my CZ/VZ mags that are meant for my rifle is all. Sure, they are bulky as heck and as a pinned to 5-30 round mag, they are ridiculously long for what you get out of them... LOL! I think that's kind of the charm though... Maybe I should get some Urban ACU camo and wear it for the next 3 gun, lol! In Soviet Russia... :D

It was the bolt closed. The LAR mags are stiff. Every person who tried to jam in a full mag on a closed bolt had toubles. That was all.

Well when you have used abused one like mine they work great :)

As mentioned file the followers down a little bit, also if you don't have a base pad they can pretty hard to seat.

YMMV

Trying to source a cheap-ish chest rig to replace my vest... I somehow thought this weekend was the steel match, doh! Might have to just suck it up and run the vest, :D Same time for setup? 7:30ish?

looking forward to this sunday... god I hope my 4x4 carriers get here by then.

pssssshhhh......you both need a tactical Noveske hoodie like I ran on the 19th :p .

A vest/chest rig will be something I'll be looking at shortly.

ROFL! I had the ever popular front-jeans-pocket dump pouch for my shotgun shells and that 8 port on stage 2 with the shotgun was... rather slow using that method, haha! Reloading from prone out of your jeans pocket is not a smart idea, hahaha!
