WS-MCR - first look, just arrived.

sorry WX-MCR..............finish was poor, receiver pins were absolutely impossible to take out without a hammer and punch,so no fiels stripping and changing out uppers sharp edges all over the lower, very little mag well flaring, pplus my 762x39 top end didnt fit it

Thanks, that is probably why they sell WS and not WX now. Although all those issues do not appear to affect functionality.

compared to the spectre receivers the xtreme is not up to par, functionality is hampered with the xtreme as it cannot be taken down without tools like the WS can be, its all a mute point as it looks like the XS is or has gone away

I received my WS-MCR last week. It looks great and I can't wait to shoot it. All I need is a place to go. BTW, are they any dedicated 5 round magazines that will fit into the rifle? I am concerned the LAR-15 magazines will become prohibited and my two 30 round magazines are pinned to 5 cartridges. If C-21 bans pinned magazines, I won't be able to shoot the rifle legally. Such is life an Canada.

Congrats!

Can you confirm that the picatinny rail on the upper receiver is machined from the same block of aluminium as the entire receiver? I believe the previous generations had the upper receiver and a separate rail affixed together.

Also, I have not read that any LAR-15 pistol magazines have fitment issues with the MCR.

Pardon my lack of experience. I'm not sure if can confirm that the upper receiver is one piece of aluminum. The rail one the top is not affixed to the unit but appears to be machined as one piece. I've attached links to a couple of photographs, one with a LAR-15 inserted.

My concern with the LAR-15 (and pinned magazines) is not that they will work or not but if they will become prohibited. I don't know of any 5 round (non-pinned) magazine that will work with my WS-MCR.

Edit: It looks like I am too new to the forum and cannot upload pictures. I can send you the photos. Let me know if there are any other questions I can try to answer.

new ones are one piece, all Lar-15 mags work in both my WS-MCR's

Forgive me if this a dumb question, but does anyone know if the folding stock variant of this rifle can be swapped out for a traditional buffer tube and telescopic stock?

If you Google Spectre Folding Stock Installation, the video shows the stock installs inside the buffer tube hole, though it has a notch that fits in the tube socket, and uses an allen bolt for stabilization. A different allen bolt is removed from the MCR prior to installing the one for the folder; I'm not sure what purpose it fills, but you may need to acquire the shorter one pictured in the video that comes with the buffer tube MCR. It looks like you just need a buffer tube and a back plate to place in the socket otherwise. Perhaps someone who owns a folder can confirm?

Anyone have experience with carbon fiber handguards? Could that make any difference in the frontal weight of the WS-MCR since barrel options are seemingly rare... un less I'm mistaken.

Quick question, I have the folding stock variant of this rifle and want to attach a sling plate to it for a single point sling, any suggestions?

My rifle is coming back from warranty. Having the firing pin fly out the back in less than 500 rounds has really hurt my trust in this firearm. There are some mods I'd like to make to it, but part of me thinks I should just sell it and save for a FAMAE.

So I just got mine yesterday (7.62x39) and I've Been going over it

some of the improvements over the initial ones:

Top pic rail is now milled into the receiver.

Few things I noticed on fit and finish

-You Can see all the machining marks on every part of the receiver... I realize this is not a $3000 gun , but quick pass on the exterior with fine media in a sandblaster would have left a much nicer finish then this.

-On the steel plate the laser/plasma curf was not sanded off on the top, the inner race was machineed, so the cut out for the charging handle half machined smooth half, half ruff curf. A deeper pass with the milling machine would have corrected this, the gun is already there in the mill, the path is already programed, juts adjust for depth. the lower half was milled smooth, why was the upper not?

-Still no staking on the buffer tube.

other then that it's a pretty clean rifle.

three things do drive me nuts,

-No bolt stop release... annoying, sure I can work around it... but is this an 1950 SKS lol? I would kill for even a simple pin leaver in a cut out slot that stuck out 1/4 inch ,so you could manually engage or disengage it (even if not tactically). It would be fairly easy to do, mill a small 5/32 wide slot just behind the magwell flare, drill and tap a hole into the bolt catch leaver. Angled slightly to account for the swing radius of the leaver, thread in a #2 machine screw with a shroud (or solid pin with threaded end).. done.

-The rear takedown pin would be amazing if it was just proud of the side of the receiver... so I could push it out with a finger nail, then have enough space to get some finger nails behind the pins head... I tried realy hard...I need a pocky something to get the rear takedown pin out.

A 9.75LB triger pull.... really? even cheap Ar15 triggers are around 6-7 were did you find this thing?

....

Either way, I'm happy with it so far (we shall see how it shoots) as a bush friendly replacement for a rifle that shouldn't have needed replacing...(#### you liberals)
I cut the hand guard down (I hate full length guards) going to find a vertical grip and It will be ready to roll. might have screwed myself though as the Mlock doesn't cover the full bottom of the hand guard, and I cut off all the forward sections... might have to get creative lol.
