So I stopped by the store friday night. A customer was looking at a stevens and was asking the salesman about it. the kid didnt seem to know much, and I gave him a few highlights about them. ( you know how long it can take to get any help at the counter, so I figured I would help out a little) the customer appreciated the comments and said thanks. a little strange but whatever.
I just needed a chance to hold the savage american classic.(30-06, jewelled bolt and pretty ###y looking by the way) As I was commenting and looking at it, the sales man who let me handle the gun started asking me a few questions.
- what do you have now? I replied a savage model 110c in 30-06, made in the early 80's. ( just one of the few savages I own...)
- He replied, I dont know much about the 110 it sounds familiar what does the C stand for? I replied CLIP.
-salesman replied: oh okay, I wasnt sure. You know, these ones are a lot better than the ones made back in the 80's.
figuring this was his sales pitch I let him ramble on about why it was better than my OLD rifle.(sleeker look, accutrigger, locking lugs, yadda yadda)This was damn near an insult/lecture for owning an older rifle!!
When he was finished I replied: Well I bought my 30-06 110C series J, from an old trapper. He shot quite a few animals with it. I myself have downed a lot of game with it as well.
For the amount of help this guy was, I may as well have bought it from a catalouge.
- Just another reason to support your local gunshop..
I promptly left and shook my head. Does this sort of thing happen all day at your local wholesale sports?
