X95 or T97 Gen3?

I've been reading, I've been looking. LOTS of thinking. With my ARs tied up I have nothing that I can shoot 5.56 with. And use all of the AR mags that I have. And .. and and.

Tavor is a good chunk of coin with a mediocre at best trigger. T97 Gen3 seems to have gotten more right (finally) than otherwise. One of my ARs is a Chinese knock-off and I've been perfectly happy with it.

Hoping for something to help sway me.

Yeah I know ... kind of. I've heard so many good things about the newest T97. I've never fired either - closest for me was a Steyr Aug many many years ago back when they were legal. The X95 - question is - is it worth the extra $1300 or just paying for the name.
 
The lack of usable selectors on the export T97s render them rather useless. Unless you want to develop weird training scars.
As much as I love the T97, it is a poor platform to work with that is deliberately handicapped.
The Tavors are well used and vetted globally for a reason.
 
I have tried the T97 it is one of those no frill guns that will always go bang, 100% is built for tough use.

I found the T97 holds a bit nicer than the Tavor, but the mag release and safety of the Tavor is way ahead of the T97. He had to remove a bit of plastic on the plastic mag spines and compress a metal mag spine a tad, as some magazines were tight, but it was easy and fast. All in all it is a tough rifle and as the Tavor military proven.

Either one will will never let you down, really comes down to budget.

My buddy dropped $1100.00 at Cabelas for his T97, then 400.00 for glass, bought some mags, and ammo so into for well under for 2200.00. But if you have 3800.00 for a Tavor package then that is the way to go before the Turd takes them all.
 
If you can afford the X95 go for it.

That being said I had a T97 that I put about 4k rounds through. Treated it like trash too. Bounced it around on the atv and in the pickup. Tossed it in the corner of the cab in all kinds of equipment. Cleaned it about twice and the odd spray of oil, if I felt like it. It went bang every time.

Only got rid of it to buy a tavor, which for some reason I don't beat the s#!t out of like I did the T97

that is your opinion, pla is using that platform.

when i was in the army and used the famas we never used the safety ... always set up for 3 burst shot ... it is harder for muscle memory and the mag release but doable.
i still do not think t97 is 1/3 of what the tavor is ... in the use.
 
in all favor: make sure you shoot them and see what works for you and what is the outcome on the target ... some may be surprise that the outcome will not bring 3 times more accurate on one side ... just saying ...

Why pay for Tavors when you can get M4s for free? Pretty easy to see the sound logic there. It's also not being dropped, it's being moved to reserve units among others. Neither are amazing rifles but the T97 is not in the same league. Why would it be for so much less $$$? The T97 is overpriced, something you could probably also say for the Tavor I suppose.

After owning ARs for forty years (this will not be the case thanks to the Turd soon) I found doing mag changes on a bullpup really odd. But my buddy's T97 Gen3 had the mag release on both sides. Personally Bullpups have a way nicer balance point and are way handier. Far as the safety goes, never really use them much I just charge and shoot, or jack the round out, I never trust any safety. My son prefers the Bullpup for balance as well. Oh and by moving the charging knob to the left you never have to move your right hand. :)

Maybe I should buy one and stop borrowing my buddy's come to think about it, have 5.56 ammo just stored away.
