Xcr break in issues

I'll try Some different ammo for sure. That's all I've shot so far. I got some fed I'll try next.
I did blast off another 20 winchester 55 grains today after work and found it to throw a bit farther after I cleaned up the bolt and changed the mag. Maybe 15-20 feet. I had one that got chucked at my 4 o'clock still cycled a fresh one, I recovered the odd ball and found a dent bellow the neck. Prob nothing to worry about but out of the ordinary. Like I stated I'm
Very new to this. And have zero experience with xcr. But any advice on things to look for or do is greatly appreciated

Stick it out. They are a blast. I highly recommend you join the XCR forum. Guys there know there stuff. There are still some detractors, but you can respect their opinion because they owned the rifle....albeit first gen etc, and still participate to help out.

Break in issues
I ordered a new 223. Revision J (keymod) and was breaking it in today and noticed a few issues.
Here's the scenario.
Using 55. Grain Winchester match ammo
Well lubed with mobi 1 0-40 synthetic
Pre cleaned the gun

And the issues
Gas setting 4 throwing brass only 10 to 15 feet a few only 5 feet
Had two double feeds where a empty and a fresh round bound this out of 60 rounds
When I slowly let the bolt down on a empty chamber it will stick about a 1/4" before closed
The bolt FACE was covered in brass.

I stopped for the day to check it over and polished the carrier as the one post in cleaning described as my carrier was heavily marred with brass on the bottom from the mag.
Maybe this is all fairly normal and will clear up I'm new so I'm unsure
Thanks for any info!!

Two issues here:
1) The gas port/plug could be out of spec Or the Winchester ammo...Try American Eagle or PMC to see if the same thing happens.
- Ive used Remington, MFS, Amercian Eagle, Salt Lake, PMC and all worked well in my previous owned XCR's...I have not tried Winchester
2) 'Carrier was heavily marred with brass", possibly the mag is seating too high or another out of spec component.
-Test different mags to see if you have the same results
-Maybe the bolt carrier is out of spec or the receiver how it seats the mag.
I know if you cannot resolve these issues they may at some point have to replace the rifle after you send it back for a warranty repair.

do what you like, informing people there are problems is bashing in your eyes so you already can't see that it is just information being posted and people can make an informed decission on their own from there.

Just like how RA claimed at shot all previous issues are fixed with the new version and we have this thread already after they just started shipping out in Canada. I was willing to give it another try, almost even preordered one from Wolverine but now with problems again on the new model I will wait and see or buy one used so I can see it is problem free beforehand.

What do you consider posting on every single XCR related thread and telling everyone about your 'experience' with the XCR over 3 years ago?
So I had issue with my Daniel Defense, should people 'wait and see' before they buy a DD?

up to them, are problems common with the DD like we see posted with the XCR? Did DD make claims to have fixed all previous problems wit a new version DD only to have someone post the same issues with a new DD?

How were your problems handled with the DD? Was it fixed by replacing parts or did no amount of warranty parts replacement and smith work leave it with the same unresolved problems?

I would think if you were in my shoes seeing this thread and given past experiences you would also be waiting a bit longer before trying an XCR again.

Maybe. Or maybe take the advice of the hundreds of other people who have posted in the last few years saying their guns work flawlessly? If you are so concerned, what keeps drawing you the the XCR threads? I think you are genuinely intrigued by the XCR but maybe you're one of those people who experiences buyer's remorse easily. You've made it clear you are wary. Why fight it? Just let it go and shop for something else.

Alright,

I keep checking this thread thinking the OP has gone shooting again only to find its you guys fighting over really.... nothing! TAKE IT TO PM. Is this kind of thing reportable when it gets out of hand like this??

OP, when are you going shooting again? New ammo and gun oil this time?

Hey, some of us can be just as ignorant as Brian....yet we actually own the rifle and are trying to help the OP. When I was looking for info on the XCR, I read about the issues, but I wanted to learn from the guys who actually ponied up the doe for one. This guy is just a troll and anyone researching the XCR on CGN will discover that soon enough. Absolutely report this, because these threads degenerate to this because of one person, every time.

Not to mention some of us like to argue with trolling stupidity.

how does the 100's of people saying they have a flawless gun make up for the problems I experienced with the XCR? or those that post problems from time to time like this thread started for the newest generation that just came out?

I am interested in one again but only if RA has fixed the issues like they have claimed or I am better of buying something else like you stated.

Just because there are rifles out there with no issues should the people who had problems stay quiet when people ask for opinions, info, advice, etc on a forum? I know this is what you would like me and anyone else who has had problems with an XCR to do by your post above, but that is not realistic on a firearms forum unless your intent is to laugh at others misfortune while staying quiet about your poor experience with the product in question.

The OP wasn't asking for your opinion on the gun. He already owns one. Show me where your experience with this rifle has helped him in the slightest way. You chimed in and listed other guns you are considering right in the face of a guy who's having problems with his new purchase. I already thanked the other member who listed the problems he had. It's not your opinion that bothers people. It's the transparency in your delivery. I'm out.

OP, good luck with your gun. Hope it starts shooting better.

Alright boys I haven't had a chance to pour the ammo through this gun since my minor problems last week. But I have cleaned it thoroughly and used light gun oil on it. I did get my hands on some 55 grain American eagle as well. I was only using winchester and a RA pistol mag. I will try the elander that came with it. Or should I try a new mag. These may be crap I have no idea. But I'll give a report with my findings. I do feel like everything is to spec. Nothing seems to get hung up. I'd did find out why the bolt was stuck if I slowly lowered it. It's the detent on the charge handle.

The best mags that worked for me with all 3 XCR-L's that I owned were...MAGPUL 20rd/5, 30rd/5 and the Grey LAR15 Pistol Mag from Questar...
I also had the 7.62x39 Pistols mags from Wolverine, also worked great...and I don't recommend loading up .223 in the 7.62x39 Pistols mags when shooting the .223 cfg/set-up, they don't seat well IMO.

I had the 223 pistol mags. Mags and ammo seem like the easiest cheapest fix. Better not over analyze this too much yet

I asked a question about the problems he was having (are they normal?), then others asked questions back of me, I responded and then I was told I was bashing.

So who derailed this topic?

Try some pmags, you can get them for under $20 and all of mine feed perfectly in all my 223's and my 300 Blackout.
If you can't find a good deal on mags call Tier One Armory in Edmonton and ask if they will ship you a few. Shouldn't cost much within Alberta.

I'm sure after a couple hundred rounds with some quality mags you won't even remember the couple stoppages.

15ft on setting 4, I wouldn't doubt the double feed was caused by the bolt slamming rearward so hard that it's upsetting the cartridges in the magazine. Run it on as low a setting you can. Mine was on #2 from day one through-out 5000rounds give or take.

Sounds about right after break IN...#2 gas setting was the sweet spot in my case for all my XCR's and both .223 and 7.62x39

Also I recommend using the charging handle only for the break in period, it ensures a good solid feed every-time, pull it back firmly and let it go, no need to assist it forward.
