Yep all the RA guns are know to do this they are just ticking time bombs! You should just all sell me your rifles fir $500 and ill make sure nobody gets hurt.
I had the same thing happen to me with my RA XCR-L 223. out of battery. round went off and sounded weird. got some powder burn on my face but other than that no damage. destroyed the extractor. took it in to Wolverine and they repaired it for me. I was shooting winchester whitebox 223 ammo.

From Grumpy wolverine back in June 2014.............
The Norinco ammo is fine for break in. Under no circumstances use the Winchester white box in these rifles. It seems to have way to soft a primer and there have been disconcerting amount of out of battery detonations using this ammo.

Wow, I'm really sorry I missed that memo.
Mine is/was a "G" revision type 1 XCR-L, a few years and thousands of reliable rounds old.If anyone wants to unload their new or old XCRs out of fear of something similar happening to them, they should shoot me a PM, I need a new one and will be fixing this or replacing it with another XCR. Its a great platform.
The XCR's have seen several updates over the years, how are you guys defining a gen1 from a gen2. By the sounds of it I have a late gen1. But need to update the bolt catch and bolt and firing pin by the sounds of it.
I will bet money he got a "click", and then racked it. And the discharge was delayed. This is why you wait 30 seconds if the round doesn't go off. Can happen with any firearm. I don't believe the "it discharged when I racked it" story for a second, especially since the XCR has a spring loaded firing pin, even with soft primers. It is so obvious by the dent in the primer that he did not wait the 30 seconds.
