I had the same thing happen to me with my RA XCR-L 223. out of battery. round went off and sounded weird. got some powder burn on my face but other than that no damage. destroyed the extractor. took it in to Wolverine and they repaired it for me. I was shooting winchester whitebox 223 ammo.

THIS was NOT an out of battery explosion. If it had been you'd have seen damage like the OP. Most likely you experienced a case head separation or split case. Extractor damage is typical of a blown case.

wait in line guys ! i was the first

look like winchester round are a no go for your safety in the XCR-l primer are too soft ...

I've tried AE 50 gr HP, AE black box, Hornady 55 BT, Fed SMK 69 gr so far while breaking in with no problems. Gas on 2 and wet.

Bad to see one OOBie like that.

From Grumpy wolverine back in June 2014.............

The Norinco ammo is fine for break in. Under no circumstances use the Winchester white box in these rifles. It seems to have way to soft a primer and there have been disconcerting amount of out of battery detonations using this ammo.

Wow, I'm really sorry I missed that memo.

Mine is/was a "G" revision type 1 XCR-L, a few years and thousands of reliable rounds old.If anyone wants to unload their new or old XCRs out of fear of something similar happening to them, they should shoot me a PM, I need a new one and will be fixing this or replacing it with another XCR. Its a great platform.

My jw105 blew up while using the white box ammo.
I'm 80% sure it was the rifles fault, but I'm never buying that ammo again.

This type of thing can happen to almost any firearm. Pretty unlucky turn of events. Mine is the type 2 and running like a top. No need to worry about the XCR. AR's explode due to case seperation etc too.

Winchester white boxare not recommended in the gen 1 xcr. Gen 2 (keymod) are fine to run it. I asked wolverine. Ive put hundreds of white box through mine.

Mine's a Gen 3 or type 3, as the lower has the large hole only, under the bolt buffer, but I've only shot relatively premium factory or match in it.

The XCR's have seen several updates over the years, how are you guys defining a gen1 from a gen2. By the sounds of it I have a late gen1. But need to update the bolt catch and bolt and firing pin by the sounds of it.

The Gen 2 / Type 2 was released in 2014 and has the type 2 BCG (and lots of them have the keymod too). The buffer is also attached to the back of the BCG rather than the lower. If you want to upgrade, I suggest calling Grumpy at Wolverine supplies. He will tell you exactly what you will need to do.

The bolt looks something like this with "cutaways" (pic from the XCR forum)

I will bet money he got a "click", and then racked it. And the discharge was delayed. This is why you wait 30 seconds if the round doesn't go off. Can happen with any firearm. I don't believe the "it discharged when I racked it" story for a second, especially since the XCR has a spring loaded firing pin, even with soft primers. It is so obvious by the dent in the primer that he did not wait the 30 seconds.

To sum up: The OP is a liar and you know the truth?
