Your all time favorite pump action .22?

I have a Browning pump in a 22WMR caliber. The gun is very accurate and it never jams on me. I wonder why Browning stopped making these rimfire pumps.

The world is infatuated with semi autos now. Pumps are old school. I would imagine they stopped making alot of them to make way for better semi autos and bolt actions. Maybe sales of pump actions dropped over the years??

So far, haven't heard a bad word said about any pump .22!

The first .22 we learned to shoot was the old Remington model 12 on the uncle's farm. I picked up one just like it a few years back, and they're sweet little rifles.

I've got a rossi 92 clone that is fun to shoot..Taurus still makes them and they will slam fire.
I'd look at the Henry pumps right now if you want to buy a new one.
Cheap and easy to scope if you want to.

I looked at the Henry's too Can-down. I think I would rather have the Browning TDA or an old school pump if i can find one. They look to be nice guns and I haven't heard anything bad said about them (I did hear the odd one comes loaded for free!)

pump .22's

Don't forget to check out the Remington 572 Fieldmasters, too. I think they still make them....alloy receivers and lots of stamped out sheetmetal parts but they work just fine. I've had one since 1958 but it's parked at the back of the safe because I like the old Win 61's better.
When you think of it, semi-autos are old school too - Winchester started making them in 1903 (.22's I mean). Cheers!

Just keep an eye on the E.E. and maybe post a wanted ad as well....I'm sure there's one out there just for you! :)

i having been watching religiously .. it's like trying to get concert tickets on the internet when it comes to pump .22's on here .. you gotta have a fast response time or you are SOL.

I think it's gonna be the Browning TDA. Are the new Brownings only chambered for LR or can you shoot long and short out of them as well?? Thought I read somewhere that there were older models that shot all three. Maybe I am wrong.

thanks to all that put in their comments!

:)

I think the best hammerless pump .22 ever made was the Winchester model 61.....all machined steel and walnut, I love them. For hammer pumps I like the REAL old Winchester 1890's or the Winchester 62's....again all steel and walnut!

They are indeed the best of the pumps, gorgeous, and single thumb screw take down. They just don't make them like this anymore, and there's something about "Winchester" that just feels good. My minty 1948 Model 61 take down's in the center. I've got a Winchester 1906 pump too, made in 1912 (bottom), she will be getting a restoration if I don't sell it (if anyone wants one let me know she's yours for a song, too many projects). My new Henry's on the top, it's OK, but chump change compared to the Model 61 and lacking in the character of the 1906.

Pumps have the best "feel" of any .22 repeater if you ask me, love them.

I had one of those Winnie 1906s. Quite the action on them. Fun to watch them work with the whole breech block coming up and back to #### it. Might pick up a nice one if I found it but the one I had was sloppy in the chamber and it wouldnt shoot well. Sure looked pretty on the wall though. Might consider one for a project now I have several 22s to shoot. Now I can afford to wait for a barrel.

I agree, the 1906 is one of the most interesting little .22's out there, and has beautiful lines. It's funny you mentioned it that way, the first thought I had regarding the 1906 was "Cute... that'd look nice on the wall."

I used a Trombone alot with my Grampa and it was a blast. They are very slick. Having said that I also have a Remington 12C which is built more solid with much cleaner lines and is maybe just a bit nicer.
Great Grampa's beat up trombone:

Just bought a Steven's Visible Loading Repeater, they are the most unique, hard to find up here [next to impossible] with condition and affordable price tag. I bought mine in the states and am going through the export red tape with Leroy Big Valley Gunworks.

Also coming will be a Remington 12A and eventually an 1890 Winchester I hope. These are all in a class that has been forgotten a long time. The Winchester is very fun, but will command a premium for the roll mark on the barrel (brand name). I shot one for the first time last weekend, Loved it!

Thats like asking would you like a Win Mod 94 in 38-55(which it first came out in) and a Win Mod 1890 in WRF (which it first came out in)the answer would be YAH!

Of course any other chamberings would be good also!

Nice pictures Noel, I wish I had a shot at that age holding grandpa's dad's gun.....it almost looks like a shotgun when junior's holding it :)
