Your favorite .22 cal pistol

My S&W Model 41 and my pre-Model 17 K-22 Masterpiece fill the niche for me:

I like the looks of the Walther Olympia, but they are both rare and expensive:

I have shot:

Ruger mark II - very nice pistol and relatively inexpensive - maybe $300 or a touch more
S&W 41 - in one word - Jamomatics - wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole
Pardini SP1 - very very nice - expensive - about $800-$1000 used, about $1600 new
Walther KSP - nice - about $800 used maybe
Walther SSP - a sweetie - doesnt get better than this - about $2200 new, hardly see them used

High standards are nice - I find them too heavy
Browning Buckmarks ok too....

All depends on how much you want to spend

Canadian Legal 4.5" Bull Barrel, in Stainless Steel, and comes straight from the factory with Crimson Trace Laser Grips.

It's not the cheapest on the Market, but IMHO, it's the nicest looking, and very, very accurate. Once you have the laser sighted in, and with a little practice, you just can't miss. I Love mine.

If money and cheapness is not the priority, you might take a look at one of the larger caliber handguns that have a .22 conversion kit. I have a Sig Sauer P226R in .40 S&W for my main handgun, and I use the .22LR conversion for lots of practice and become very familiar with the feel of the handgun. There are many other Great Handguns out there that also offer a .22 Conversion Kit.

Guns for any type of ISSF/Olympic competition are quite expensive. This is not surprising considering that they aren't a high volume seller and the level of precision that goes into manufacturing them.

Whether or not it's worth it to you depends on what kind of shooting you do and how much use you get out of it.

lol, ok bubba, I'll take your word for it.. cuz the last thing i'm going to do is shoot one, thereby adding $2200 to my hobby budget this year!
 
GSPs are very, very nice, especially when you have the grip and trigger fitted just the way you like. I agree with bubba that its hard not to want one.

That said, I have a soft spot for bull barrelled Ruger MkII's. They are a fun gun. I learnt on one, and have taught several people on one.

Depends what you are into. Its easy to justify $2200 for a relatively long term investment in whatever tool you want, be it a tricked out black rifle for service rifle or a precision pistol for bullseye. The hard part is saving up for it, lol.

But wise thing M39A2 said to me one time was "you can't buy a score". He was right.

You may find the holy grail you spent your hard earned money on is only an excuse eliminator. 99% of the time it is not the gun which was a problem, it's you. Its very humbling.
 
I've had a few .22 pistols, the only ones I've kept are the S&W 17, and the Colt .22 conversion for a 1911. Haven't tried any of the other conversions or the dedicated 1911 .22 pistols.

alot of people don't like the walther p22 for its small grip put i have 1 of them now and another on order and love them they look awesome they shoot awesome and there a ton of fun. we have about 10,000 rounds threw it and it works flawless shot 800 rounds in it on sunday without cleaning at all and not a single jam of any sort with the cheapest ammo we can buy.

i am also going to buy a gsg 1911 soon as i think its a pretty cool 22 and i love 1911's
 
I'd say Ruger Charger with 30 round steel lip mag, bipod and red dot.
Its everybodys favorite range gun

Would not say no to any Walthers from the GSP onwards, but not the non target versions
 
I'd also have to go with the ruger mark III, sweet working firearm, little fussy on the ammo it eats. It likes higher end .22 ammo, not the bargin shuff. But it shoots as straight as i can hold it, lol. Have used a high standard before, it also worked well. But the only problem with it is it'll make mincemeet out of your thumb if your not carful. Or having one of those days where your not quite awake yet.
 
I like the older Brownings, the Medallist,the Challenger and the Nomad. If interested my Nomad is currently for sale in the Equipment Exchange.
