** Your NEA102 build **

So, with an optic, it is going over 10 pounds?
the 9.6lb weight comes directly from email with sfrc.

It is what they call a medium profile barrel. I think you would be lucky to see even a 1lb weight reduction going to a light profile or carbon proof which still brings it in heavier than an ACR with a Caliber conversion

I think 10 pounds is kind of standard for an ar-10 with optics, I've read a few threads on this subject and it's rare to see one dressed up for less. The M&P-10 weighs in at 8lbs in stock config. With out some skeletonization I feel it would be hard to get under that. The real value of the proof barrel on my modern Hunter was balance. That being said, I went from a heavy profile stainless barrel and the difference was night and day. Dressed up my modern Hunter is 11.8lbs but shouldered it doesn't feel half as heavy as before. Center of balance is the middle of the Magwell. I could shave it down a bit but don't feel it's necessary anymore. Also it's pretty hard to be lighter than a 223 action polymer framed rifle like the ACR, Not sure how it's relevant, is there a .308 calibre conversion? The RFB weighs in at 8lbs plus for a more relevant weight comparison.

The regular light profile barrel ATRS sells makes the rifle come in at 8lbs just like the proof. the only advantage the proof has is barrel temps/cooling if you are using the hunter for sustained fire. For hunting, I see no need.

The RFB which I also had feels way lighter than 8lbs because of its OAL, It will be interesting to see what happens with the MDR (status and weights for each caliber)

ACR has Remington 30 AR as a conversion which I have. similar in performance to a 308 with the same bullet weight out to about 400yds. I am looking for the holy grail I know, but it should be possible for someone to build a light weight non restricted semi auto 308. It is relevant to the conversation as any semi auto 308 has to have a considerable advantage over the ACR for me to adopt it as my go to hunting rifle, weight is a key issue that I am not willing to compromise on.

I think this is the first black rifle I didnt jump on the bandwagon to get...lol... After the big disappointment the APC556 was, I decided to wait from now on :)

Totally understand. In the case of the NEA102 my expectations are pretty darn low but for the price point I think reasonable to gamble.

After some initial quallity and accuracy reports come in... definately a 2-10 x 40-44 optic will go on it. I'm a Vortex fan boy most of the time, but am wanting to try a Burris as of late. Looked through one on a remmy 700 at the range (4-16x50) and super clear and everything just "popped" ... h.d.

Need a little help, I'm torn. I've been watching the NEA102 for a while so I bought one to moose hunt with. I want to put something on that's 4-12x, but I don't know if I want to be dogging in the heavy bush with that glass on. But at the same time, when I'm on watch I would love to have the option of dialing in the 12x magnification. I have an eotech xps-3 and g33 magnifier on a tavor right now that I could move onto the 102 but for some reason I don't think that will work well. Been playing with the idea of a scope and offset irons, but I would love to hear suggestions.

Thanks guys.

I would say keep it simple. Lightweight midrange magnification optic with good solid mounts, or just iron sights if you want to keep her light.

How about a 1-8 or a 2.5-10? Vortex makes a really slim model with something like a 33mm objective lense. Gives you a nice low end for bush with enough magnification to reach out far enough with the .308.

I've been wondering what would be better. A QD cantilever for the scope or traditional rings? What's the whole reason for the cantilever on these types of rifles,QD aside.

Its not as much a problem with the AR10 as it is with a AR15 but there usually isn't much or any of the receiver rail where the front ring would be, hence the need for cantilever mounts.

Put the scope you want on it, and invest in a solid padded sling and proper qd mounts that allows you to carry the rifle properly.

Alright! Got in on the TSE pre-order so now this is a reality. Gonna just slap my 1-4x24 burris sight on it and she will be ready to rock! Crossing my fingers for ODG!
