Youth sport shooters stripped of Ontario Summer Games honours

What are The CSSA and The NFA think about this???... a voice would be nice!.

What, apart from the CSSA getting the whole thing exposed and a CSSA RD doing multiple interviews with Canadian and US media and Sheldon Clare of the NFA offering that CSSA RD the NFA's help, what voice are you looking for?

Go to NRA news now and you might find out.

Dear Mr. Fusco
I have recently read your decision to disallow two prominent youth shooters from taking their rightful and well-earned place atop a world stage as ambassadors to their sport based on the fact that they compete in a shooting discipline.
As a proud Canadian, and an upstanding member of my community, who I might add votes, and works very hard to achieve the rights and privileges that are earned by doing so. I find this to be an embarrassment to the rest of the shooting sports community and especially those who may have given you the opportunity to represent them in such a political role by voting you and your party to office.
Although I do not live in the Toronto area I am however a Canadian citizen and find matters such as this one disturbing to say the least. It pains me to think that as an educated person, as are your superiors not one of you took the time to think this, knee jerk reaction through to its potential or addressed the very real issue that your city faces which lead to the tragedy just days ago.
By punishing two of the countries and of your very own province’s top athletes based on the actions of those lawless individuals, says to me and others who have read your statement that you are not proud of these individuals for all of their hard work and sacrifice which lead them to the top of their discipline. And that Sir. is a very real slap in the face to all aspiring youth in your City, Province and our Country.
The role I would have expected you and your office to take would have been one of support for these two youth and to show the general public that not all individuals who own firearms are evil and are up to no good.
As a Canadian citizen I feel it is my duty to protect my rights and privileges from those who cluster us upstanding citizens in with those who have no moral conscience. And to voice the matters that make us a Sovereign Nation free from tyranny.
I trust that with the overwhelming support for these athletes has been made obvious to you by the firearms community you will take the time to publicly apologise to us for this wrong doing and set the matter straight.
I would hope that in the future you will think of the consequences of your actions prior to acting.
If we throw out the barrel of apples because of a few rotten ones we would all go hungry!
Sincerely
Shawn

Ok... I wrote M Fusco a couple of e-mails, but acknowledged that HE was the MESSENGER. he provided the name and contact phone number of the person to whom to complain. I (and I'm sure a lot of others) complained to her.

Whoever the idiot was that decided to ban a couple of sport shooters has probably realized just how stupid a decision it was. I was going to strongly recommend to the sport I coach (but I'm not going to the Games) that they withdraw from the games because of the unfair treatment of two participants. since the decision has been reversed, I've not done that. I too received the e-mail from C.V. advising that the decision was reversed.

Guys - don't shoot the messenger - he worded his letter in such a way that if you read it carefully, he thought it was pretty stupid, too.

You are mistaking!!! They have not realized just how stupid they are. Stupid people are just too stupid to realize just how stupid they really are.

They succumbed to the unrelenting pressure imposed by the very powerful CGN gun lobby (aka coalition of the "fed up"). Together we drove them into a pendulant state of back peddling.

That is what I am looking for.

Me love when members kick arse.

As was said above, I don't think Mr. Fusco was responsible for this decision. He was only the poor guy who had to pass the message on, and rather apologetically I might add. We should bear him no ill will.

it was some unnamed "city staff". It would be great to find out who they were.

He is part of the greater government that was responsible for issuing that statement. And as a public representative who was charged with releasing this statement he's has become the spokesperson for the party who is in charge. Protect him if you feel obligated to but by allmeans do not assume he wasn't fully aware of the backlash he would face by releasing this statement. He is afterall an employee appointed by the public to serve the public and an adult capable of making decisions of his own.
Problem is as with most people involved with governing a group is they become complacent with the positions they hold and do not feel it necessary or are they secure enough to voice their own oppinions on matters such as this for fear of repercussions and possibly loss of livelyhood. Admit your wrong and move on. It becomes much easier to see problems before they arrive in ne future.

What are The CSSA and The NFA think about this???... a voice would be nice!.

The CSSA was involved right from the start. They are they Provincial Sport Organizer for Sporting Rifle. They were the first to receive that email that removed Chris and Sabrina from attending the World Record Camp Day. They were the ones that sent out the press release and involved certain media, like Matt Gurney with the National Post. Our organizations do support us, but we in turn need to support them so they can continue to do so.

I for one would like to thank Tony Bernardo, John Evers and all the CSSA members that worked on this. I would also like to thank Mr. Sheldon Clare of the NFA for his support on this matter. And of course, all of CGN for stepping up and taking part. It was all of us working together and getting behind these two young athletes that made this reversal possible.

However, things are not over yet. The fact that the decision was made in the first place is a serious issue. Just a heads up, there are more interviews scheduled today. One you may be interested to note was cancelled. CBC television were to interview Chris and Sabrina this morning at EESA, but they cancelled once the decision to exclude them was reversed. Apparently all is now good with the world. There are still interviews with Sun News and CHCH in Hamilton. So we are not done yet.

Dear Mr. Fusco,

I belong to what you can call the community supporting Liberals in their views. However, regarding the exclusion of Target shooters from the Ambassador Team of Toronto, need I say is beyond logic.
What message are we trying to convey through this? That responsible firearm owners are the ones behind public massacres?

As a Canadian, I have a better suggestion. Please have a meeting and ban Indy and all Car related events in Toronto, as there are more deaths by reckless driving than firearms in Canada.

Thanks,

"Unfortunately due to the untimely shootings" What does this statement mean??? Is there a good time for a shooting!

Our current gov. is a joke!

I just read all this now and definately would've been on board to send out a few dozen e-mails but it looks like you guy's won the battle without me - you guy's should all feel awesome. When we all band together, we get #### done! Where is our next battle????

Thats really shallow. That paints a picture of all shooters being bad. We suffer from an incident that is in no way related to a peaceful sport. So what next? The shooter was driving a Chevy, so they are going to ban GM cars too? Idiots! Not acceptable. Someone better fix this.

Correction. I only got in 2 pages before I had to say something. Hopefully we can avoid this next time, but your right that its not over. I dont think it ever will be. I am glad to hear it was overturned. Good job people.

As "Darlin" says above............"so we are not done yet"

The next battle seems to be taking place as I type at the UN that involves the creation of a "universal" arms treaty.
If reports are true, the USA is ready to sign it when it closes July 27th.

Canada has however thankfuly choosen to be an unwilling participant.

This is good news, however we still need to be in contact with our elected officials to ensure that they have our hobby/sport and our overall best interests at the top of their lists.

More information can be found at the NFA site.

Thank you to those sent emails that helped re-instate our shooting sports represenatives.

This proves there is safety in numbers and even brain dead politicians listen when confronted by over whelming facts and the truth presented by a public out pouring of out rage over their stupid actions.

Response letter

I sent an email and this is the response that I received.

"Hello,

Thank you for your email regarding the recent decision surrounding the participation of the sporting rifle athlete ambassadors in the welcoming ceremony of the World Record Camp Games.

Given the recent events in the City, City staff made a decision not to have the athlete ambassadors representing sport shooting participate in the on stage welcome ceremony component of the World Record Camp Games due to the very young audience expected to participate in the event

Upon further reflection, and discussion with the Games Organizing Committee, the City of Toronto regrets the decision that was communicated to the Canadian Shooting Sports Association and supports the participation of all athlete ambassadors in the on stage Welcoming Ceremony of the World Record Camp Games.

The City of Toronto very much values the participation of all Ontario Summer Games athlete ambassadors in the World Record Camp Games event and looks forward to hosting all athletes representing all 28 sporting events to the 2012 Ontario Summer Games.

Thank you."

Good job everybody. This just goes to show that if enough of us get involved in issues that are dear to our hearts we can make a difference.:canadaFlag:

And even with that very shallow (I can't call it apology) above message, they are trying to disparage the sport of shooting when they mention the presence of a very young audience.

If the Show merits a "PG" rating, then they should tell those "very young kids"'s parents to keep the children at home.
