Zombie Apocalypse

.22lr will suffice for Zed. Why carry all the extra weight and expensive kit?
If you are quick and accurate with the brain stem shots. But the skull is (cunningly) at it's most curved there:
brain-scan-Wellcome.jpg

so penetration is not guaranteed with 22LR. You can see why the eye socket is good from the photo. Eyebrow really has a lot of curvy bone there. Shooting the crossword puzzle centre of the brain won't stop them, you have to hit the life support area, and you may only get one shot.

9mm would work 90% of the time, but its the 10% that causes the trouble.
5.56x45 to the head should work, based on fragmentation.
000 buck to the pelvis would work too, as a mobility kill. Or a headshot, obviously.
So a 12 ga pump with a light on it would work well. You have to carry heavier ammo and deal with it.
10,000 rounds of 22LR in you backpack is no use if you have a failure to stop on Zombie #8.

Ditch the .308 because the ammo is to heavy and bulky and you don't need the range advantage it offers. Go .223, it's light and plenty accurate enough for headshots out to 100yds. You will need lots of high capacity mags and a good reliable pistol on your hip with plenty of ammo and mags for it as well.

After that iron sights for backup to an EoTech or Aimpoint DR.

I don't need food and water, I have guns. I will take what I need as I need it from all the people who voted for gun control.

I can't wait for the zombies:D

that is sig line worthy my friend

he means its a worthy quote to put in your signature.

Oh,
Thanks, almost feel stupid for not catching that one.
Every now and then I come up with a good one.
Been thinking that since I started stockpiling ammo for the zombie invasion though.
Food and water are secondary. I'll let others worry about that stuff. I only need my AR's and Glocks and a few thousand rounds;) of ammo for each to start with. My buddies think I'm crazy to have so much ammo and so many mags but I keep telling them "you'll see, don't come running to me when you're a zombie though"
There will be plenty of abandoned houses to raid for supplies after a couple days of zombie hunting.

Any surviving CGN members in the Edmonton area are welcome to come to my acreage to team up and form an armed community. It's right over there, take a left and then your second right after the tracks then left and it's on the right ;).
Just outside the city so it will be easy to run in to Safeway for supplies.

Why is this taking so long? I'm ready now! Come on zombies show yourselves.

Man you guys are worrying about sighting options when it's not even close to being at the top of the list.

1. Cardio.
2. Double tap.
etc.

But I guess which ever sighting system you use to best acheive rule #2 is worthy of discussion. :stirthepot2:

CARDIO!!!!!

That is all you need!

Well that and a night force 2.5-10x32 w/Low velocity reticle and zerostop, a backup T1 on an offset mount and backup Troy iron sights HK style of course:D

We are not making a top ten list here. Or a 'What to do if?" ...Read the opening post.

This is a discussion of a preferred optic choice for an H&K MR308 .. Presumably best for quick target acquisition, close to medium range, in variable light conditions.

Cardio will only help to prolong the inevitable. Zombies don't get winded, they will just keep comming! It couldn't hurt though.

Keeping with the thread, Irons, or a x2 max, no need to make that 500 yard shot and alerting every zombie within 3 km.

BUT why do people have such hard on's for larger calibre rounds? it's been said once or twice on this thread.... a 22lr is all you need, 5.56 MAX.
22lr will punch through a skill at medium range 50-75 yards no problem, even better is it won't have enough energy to exit the skull therefore mushing the brain ensuring a kill. With the 22lr you can carry THOUSANDS of rounds for half the weight of hundreds of larger calibers and you can't beat the no recoil and small noise.
5.56 will have the benefit of better accuracy, but again if a zombie is 2-300 yards away, you shouldn't have to engage, escape and evade.

man i love a good zombie debate

No and no. A 22lr to the head may kill you, it may not. And 22LR commonly exits human skulls.
12ga buckshot between the eyes ensures a kill, not 22LR. I know recoil is dreadful, and ammo is heavy, we hear you sister.
Were are talking Zombies here man, no pussyfooting.
Thousands of rounds in your backpack with a Zombie scratch on your arm from failure to stop Zombie #20, not a lot of use.

No apologies for speaking harshly here, lives are at stake.

we aren't just talking zombies, we are talking ultimate survival. A subsonic .22lr has a better chance of staying inside a skull and mushing it than any other round out there.
A shot gun is only good for house clearing, i wouldn't trust it for anything other than 5-10 feet, and even then why not just use a 22. You may kid but amount of ammo, noise, and recoil are paramount:

Amount of ammo: why carry 100 rounds at 30 lbs, when you can carry 20 times that for less weight, bullets don't last forever;
Noise: why alert every zombie to your location within 3 km?
recoil: 10 zombies are approaching, 10 quick head shots sure beats 1, readjust, 2 readjust, 3, readjust, 4 readjust, 5 re....dinner.
Think man, this is beginner stuff :)
