SU16 barrell crack.????

the SU-16 has a pencil thin barrel. No wonder they say not to thread it. I got the SU16 when it first came out and tried to AR-ize it because I didn't want to get into ARs. Well that's a mistake that people keep on making. Just get an AR.
the new SU16 FX comes with a flash hider. If the AR was NR I'd get one over any NR black rifle, I do a lot of my shooting in the bush so Ar didn't quite work for me. I like the NR black rifles because of the mag capacity, the stock options, the rails and the NR statis.

I ordered keymod with heavy barrel , because they have none in stock for a few wks, I can still make a few changes, they are going to install a CRT stock and adapter and give me a credit for the OEM stock. I've looked at page , where you can build your own rifle and it appeared you can choose rifling , maybe it's for the m - model only. Oh and I've ordered an S&J linear comp. here's my thoughts on the SU16.. If Ivan get a new barrel and receiver for$400, I'll have the tactical stock conversion kit + Red lion aluminum forend , which is a $450 value. So new barrel receiver and stock and forend, I should get $800 for it .cost me 400 to make $400. Or sell it as is for what?

Actually the hole through to the bore probably was part of your problem, if there wasn't a weak spot from the hole you may have got away with just a ruined laser sighter and flash hider.

So you would rather sink more money into it? Let me see if I understand this correctly.
Rifle $800
New barrel and receiver $400 maybe
Stock and forend $450

That's a total of $1650 plus taxes for an $800 rifle that you might be able to sell for $800-$900 after barrel replacement or you could part it out and probably at least get most of your money back for the stock and forend and learn your lesson with the loss of the $800 rifle.
I would take the $400 you get for the stock and forend and buy some ammo for the XCR and forget all about your SU-16.

Looks to me like either way you go you are going to lose around $800 but one way you get rid of it tomorrow and the other way you spend more money and more time and still lose $800.

ya , you're right, unless kel tec gives me a really super deal :) , I'm sure there are other parts that are useful also.

What deal are you looking for? You're the one who shot the thing with an obstruction in the barrel. 100% your fault, anyone with half a brain sees that it's operator error therefore the dealer/distributor is not responsible and is not obligated to give you any kind of deal. Buy a new barrel or buy a new gun, problem solved. You can still use bore sighters next time just smarten up and remember that you left it in the barrel. You're the human with the brain you control the outcome, not your bore sighter or your keltec. Safe shooting that's your responsibility.

Any one with any brain at all can see that I said it was %100 my fault, I never asked kel tec for a free gun, I asked for a deal on a barrel only. They can do whatever they want, I really don't give a fyck. Ya I get it, I got pre occupied ,switching scope around etc, made a mistake , that cost me gun. But that's my problem , nobody else's .

I guess there is a lesson 3: every rifle get's it's own scope.

A deal on a barrel only is still asking for a deal after you broke it yourself. That's my point.

Do you really have a point? I think your just jumping on the bashing band wagon. Nothing wrong to ask the guys if they can give you a deal on part they may have laying around operator error or not. The guys at Vault are pretty good guys and being local Ive gone in there a few times when I used to own Kel Tec products and generally they had what I needed in the spare parts bin and I was on my way. They actually put together a complete S2K from spare parts for a buddy of mine and gave him a great deal on it.

I don't think you actually have a point other than getting your post count up and trolling someone who made a mistake. He bought Vault's product and is a valuable customer so there is no reason they can't help him out even if it was his fault. It's called retail 101.

I never asked them for a deal, I stated here that it would be nice if they did. I asked if they could sell me a barrel and receiver only , I don't need the rest. I also sent them pics and told them how it happened. I've always defended their SU16 when given the opportunity, not many do, that should count for something. If not a deal , then why not cost +10% or something of that nature. And if they want to give me nothing, that's their right also.

yes your right again , one of the rifles was just put together that day , and I really wanted to try it out. I only had 1 scope available , anyway it is what it is.

As long as you learn from it then it's all good.
Realize you are lucky you weren't hurt and don't let it happen again.

I always seem to have older red dots and scopes lying around for situations like that.
Next time buy a quality optic instead of trying to dress up a cheap rifle to look like something else. If you had then you would have still lost your $800 rifle but you would have walked away with a nice optic for your new rifle.

As soon as you start shooting the XCR you'll forget all about the SU-16.

I'm sick and tired of buyin cheap firearm products, buying and then selling for half price. What you think about the sightron111 1x7 scope? It's either that or the bushnell pcl.
:)

Don't worry about CashMonkey, you have 3x the post count that means you know 3x what he does according to CGN rules ;) LOL
I joined in dec , when I purchased my first semi , I haven't missed a single day of CGN, gott say it's addicting. I have learned a couple small things but have many many many more! To learn.

Sightron all the way, I have an SIII 6-24x50 and it is almost as clear as my Nightforce and for half the price the biggest thing you are giving up is the ability to use it as a hammer to build a fence.
I had a Bushnell elite 6500 2.5-16 and only had it for about 4 months before I had to get rid of it. It was terrible compared to my Sightron, Trijicon or Nightforce.
Once you look through quality optics you are never satisfied with anything less again.
I just bought my first Vortex yesterday, picked up a 4-16x50 viper PST and it seems to be a good scope for the money. At $800 it is nice clear glass and has some nice features like zero-stop turrets and illumination that others in the same price range don't offer. I can't justify the price if the Razor series from Vortex though, for that price I'll just buy another Nightforce.

Quality gear holds it's value while crap is worth nothing once you buy it.
