Shorten PAL Approval Times

Just called the alberta cfo, they said the application has been with them since november, they said it would probably be another couple of months to get to the top of the pile (they are processed in the order they are received) so much for the 45 day industry standard.

Holy crap balls.....that is just ridiculous......

Something needs to be done with the CFO's. If you pay for a product that you don't get within 90 days technically you could call your credit card and get refunded....lol. We purchased a product, we should be getting it in a timely manner.

Wonder if the consumer protection act would cover us?

Yeah it is crazy!
Anybody have any advice on how to speed the process along from where i am right now?

application recieved 12-24-2014, license is now in the mail. It wasn't as of Wednesday at lunch time but as of this morning it is so Im not sur ehow long its been done, but it is on its way.

Not bad considering I had a friend waiting almost 4 months.

When you say mail, do you mean the website say it has been issued or actually says mailed. Buddy thinks when he got his it actually said when it got mailed out. If that is the case, mine still hasn't been mailed. I suspect it isn't

I called in 4 or 5 times, basically once a week after they had it online for a few weeks. I'm shocked it was so fast since there was an issue with the cheque and the bank returned it. I called and made a credit card payment the day I got the letter. I called middle of last week and they told me the photo just had to be scanned and it would be finalized, I didn't expect it this fast. I didn't have anyone call in, was only applying for my PAL so the people on the phone said it wouldn't really speed anything up.

I was friendly and polite and with the exception of one phone call everyone seemed friendly and polite on the other end. Just a waiting game I guess. Im sure my buddy will be glad to have some safe space back when I can pick up the guns and ammunition hes been storing for me since Christmas.

Rikkards was yours approved - i cant remember your status.

It says it has been issued and to contact if not arrived in 2 weeks which would be next Wednesday.
My big challenge now is finding ammo for a Winchester 25-35 I am inheriting which was my grandfather's. I suspect I will be reloading although I have seen out west you can get a box of 20 for like $35 out here they want $64 :O

What!!? Un-f'n-real. I'll be phoning in shortly as well and see what they say. When I phoned in 2 weeks ago inquiring of my applications status, they said they were performing background check etc and it takes time. I asked if there was a big back log and she said "no, not really". See what they say today.

bit the bullet - called them and they are ready for my reference.......will update as i know more later.,

I think in this thread to give an idea where people are at any given point and if there is an update in their status the following should be provided as it may help in gleaning the actual times:
Date delivered to CFP and what it says on the website (ideally they should be the same
Date the application number showed up (or first observed)
Date references can call in (or if reference spoke to CFP)
Date status changed from in progress to issued
Date License showed up in mailbox
What province you are in (unless it is in your profile)

Sorry for using you as an example but it was the first I found. It would definitely give people around the same point of submission an idea if things are happening.

Date delivered to CFP and what it says on the website - 5th January 2015
Date the application number showed up - 19th January 2015 (pm)
Cheque Cashed 20th January 2015
Date references can call in 23rd February 2015
Date status changed from in progress to issued: Licence Issued 23/02/2015 (10 mins after References)
Date License showed up in mailbox : waiting
What province you are in Ontario

Thanks, you seem to be one of the lucky ones so far!

Let me know what they have to say to you, im thinking ill call back tomorrow and ask for the cfo directly

I just called them since it showed up online Friday just to check to see if all my information was received since I am leaving the country on vacation. They told me that they have not got to that point and to check back in 2- 3 weeks because of the backlog.

Yeah I doubt calling helps. But here in Alberta I just got my PAL in the mail today. Application was originally received in Miramichi on Dec. 11th I believe.
