25 Yard Freestyle Accuracy.....let's play a game.

Here are my targets lol, the good news is my left/right is good after drifting my sight for my new CFE loads. (still have brass on the sight from the punch)

It makes me feel better to see these target results from everyone especially when apparently every person online shoots 2" groups at 25 yards offhand with a 1911 .45.

Was at the club yesterday and we talked about this years CDP club matches.
The vast majority of shooters cannot hit much @ 25 yds, nevermind group 2". Those would be Ransom Rest groups for most standard pistols.
Most of the shooting done is @ 7,10 15 yds.
25 yds is usually for tie breakers and if it were up to me there would be 50 yds, but nobody would show up for that.

Keep practicing lead hammer, those are typical groups. Start shooting a 1000 rds per month and watch those groups shrink. :)

Thanks for starting and continuing this thread!
This is one of the few high post threads that has all of us showing support for the great and novice shooters using all varieties of firearms with no bickering going on. This is how all of us as a community should communicate. Well done and keep it going!

I am confident I can do better, I had some trouble seeing my front fiber at that spot in the range. It was my first ever 2 attempts at that distance as well but, it is not easy to do that's for sure.

Once you try it, it sure gives you a new level of respect for those that shoot it well...it also provides a great challenge and goal!

Well Lead Hammer, you have to start somewhere and it's not bad at all for a start. Like lejarretnoir said, if you would shoot 1k rounds a month you would definatly get better and rather quickly. I've been shooting a minimum of 10k rounds a year (and that's very conservative) for the last 10+ years and that's on my time. I'm also lucky enough to have a line of work that sporadically "forces" me to shoot other types of firearms on top of that so if you have time, patience & $$$, it really isnt that hard to shoot 2"-3" groups at 25 yards offhand with the proper guns.

I only shoot at less than 20-25 yards/meters for duty training, drills or qualifications. For me, on my own time, the real challenge starts at 20-25 and it feels good to see what you can do at those distances and up with quality equipment of course.

Thanks for the encouragement.
Though I am short on $$, low on patience, and short on time lol. I can shoot just fine at closer distances of 7-15 meters, but I have been working on my draw and shoot, feeling the trigger reset, and next will be reloads. I am not interested too much on bullseye style shooting but having said that I want to be able to get those 10 shots in the black!!!!!!!

I love my front fiber optic sight for IPSC and fast target acquisition, but I have trouble with it too for longer distance target work. It's not so bad when it's cloudy, but on a bright day, the fiber optic dot is so bright, it can be difficult to clearly see the top of the front sight is lined up precisely with the top of the rear sights. Plain old blocky iron sights are great for target shooting, and even better for my old eyes is a nice precise red dot :)

I used a TRS25 on my 22/45. The red dot is not as precise as the Ultra Dot I have on my High Standard Victor, but it's not the limiting factor for my accuracy. It was easier to tune the trigger in the 22/45 and it's not fussy on ammo :)

Is there a small enough red dot for precise shooting at 25 yards? I have not used a dot before so no idea...

Great shooting right there! What ammo were you using?

No, it's the CZ Custom Slide Racker base for a C-More STS sight, but it fits the Vortex Razor perfectly. :)
There's a base for the Shadow as well on the CZC site. You will need 8x32 cap screws as the Razor ones are 8x36.

Been testing this for the last two weeks and 600 rds. No problems yet. Zero and red dot holding.

Damn, just when I've retired my CZ Shadow in favor of my GP X-Caliburs, she pulls me back in lol. Would be fun to mount a red dot on the Shadow to play with now that I'm not using it for Production class anymore.
