Norinco NS522 build: NEW MAG RELEASE

Minni do you how many SN522's were produced in total ?

So the USA , Canada and Australia/New Zealand all received sn522's , I wonder if any were exported to Europe or else where ,hmmmmmmm.

Well after reading this thread and many others , you tube video's , reviews , ect on the sn522 , It's better than what I had expected and my impression of the NS522 was high .

From what I've gathered, only some 2000-2500 NS522s were ever made. They were all ordered as barrelled actions by KFS, then stocked in the US, and sold there from the mid 1990s. At some point, some 500 or so barrelled actions ended up in Atlanta without bolts, then importation of all Chinese arms into the US was stopped. This left KFS looking for a domestic supplier for the missing bolts. Some were apparently made, and KFS continued to sell the guns a few at a time for years thereafter. Now, here's where the speculation begins...somehow or the other, someone in Canada heard of a number of 522 barrelled actions sitting in some warehouse in the States. Those barrelled actions then made their way into Canada, where they were apparently installed in EM332 stocks and sold thru CanAmmo in just the last year or two. The 522 was never sold in Australia/New Zealand (those countries imported the JW-15 and the EM332 from China), nor was it imported--to my knowledge--to Europe. As I understand it, the 522 was entirely a KFS creation. Essentially, they contracted with Norinco Sports to fit a heavier, target barrel to a certain number of EM332 actions, which they would then stock in Atlanta, Ga, using stocks provided by the Bishop Gunstock Co. The 522s sold in Canada recently were all part of these original KFS orders.

OK , then the next question is , were did the bolts come from as it seems only < 522 barrelled actions > were on hand in the USA , one may presume that Norinco provided the EM322 stocks and required number of bolts for these 500 or so SN522's ? As the stock on the Canadian SN522 is a forced match IE spacer washers , over sized bolt cut out in the stock , and is an exact copy of the EM322 stock .

Personally I really like the stock on mine , I see as a real beautiful rifle , sure it may require some loving tweaking to squeeze all it potential accuracy out of it but that's half the fun , well at least for some of us .

I think that the story and mystery behind this rifle on how it ended up in it's present configuration in Canada and what appears to be a very limited numbers adds to it's appeal ,then toss in it's possible high degree of accuracy
makes for a special place in our respective gun safes .
 
Idle speculation, but I would think that whoever scooped up the 522 barrelled actions from the States ordered the "Down Under" spec 332 stocks from Norinco and then fitted them to the actions. The EM332 was also sold, briefly, in the US (again, remember the US banned further importation of Chinese arms ca. 1997), but with a stock that had a conventional bolt cut-out in the stock, and two very distinctive cut-outs in the buttstock, each of which held a spare magazine (there were probably less US EM332s imported than NS522s!). Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, meanwhile, had no qualms about importing Chinese sporting weapons. The latter two countries imported EM332 rifles, which differed from the US bound 332s in that the "Down Under" stocks did not have the very distinctive twin mag holders in the buttstock, but did have the wide stock cut-out for the "Down Under" spec "spoonbill" bolt handle. As to the missing bolts, all I know is KFS was searching for a domestic contractor to make them. I don't know how many they ever found.
 
Nork never made stocks for the NS522, so they likely just tooled up and made the EM322 stocks for left over KFS rifles and made them work. The stocks are newly made....same stain as the latest jw25 rifles imported.

I agree. Norinco currently exports the EM332 (and other products) to Australia and New Zealand, so it would be easy enough to source current production 332 stocks if a fella had the proper connections.

I wonder why one lately has tried to import some EM332 to sell here in Canada ?

It too is a nice looking rifle , if it came with the 2 extra mags in the stock , I would be very interested in acquiring one .

Most of our Canadian friends find it hard--or too expensive, or both--to import stocks from the US into Canada. Don Stith is something of a NS522 fan, btw.

Yes the target crown is rare. The guy I purchased this one from has 3 more nib he's selling hoping one of those will have it and if so I will be buying another even though this one shoots sub moa.
