I did say AK mag lower
It may be crap but so is 223/5.56 when it really comes down to it. I wonder which cartridge and rifles chambered for it is more prominent in todays world, Has the 556 overtaken the x39 AK?
You want them to go through the trouble of making an AK lower as well and you want the complete rifle for what $2000-$2500 so it's competitive with a used XCR or ACR?
Ballistically the 5.56 is far superior to the x39, it may not make as big of a hole but the increased velocity gives it energy not that far below a x39 round. I don't think anyone wants to get shot with either round.
No, it hasn't overtaken it in world conflicts but it must be getting close, and the x39 has been around since what? 1944? That's about 20 years more than 5.56.
If you want to shoot x39 run it through a rifle designed around the cartridge not a rifle converted from 5.56. Reliability is lost and since there are a lot of ranges out there now that won't allow steel core is x39 really that great? I've even heard there is a province out east that doesn't allow it on crown land. Plus, shooting corrosive out of my $3000 rifle doesn't exactly sound like a great idea. I don't like having to clean my rifles in a bathtub, a quick wipe and bore swab is all I want to do when I get home.
