What .45 aside from a 1911 would fit my requirement list?

This pistol is the top non 1911 45 ACP, i rate it just behind my Les Baer for accuracy... JP.

I have the 97 and the MP45. Love them both. Both are 10 round mags.

Trigger wise......one is hammer DA/SA and the other is striker fired. The MP needs the Apex kit, but once in, it feels almost like a polymer 1911 (but not quite.....maybe it's the grip angle too?)

The CZ is a CZ. More accurate than me or anyone else who's shot it. I'm not a fan of the screw in bushing, but I'm not a fan of the 1911 bushing either. It DOES help increase accuracy, as it can be tightened up if needed. Other than that, very mild recoiling owing to the steel frame and very accurate owning to the "slide inside the frame" design. The Jericho is a copy.

I like the 220, but find it's like shooting a 1911 with a DA/SA trigger.

Now if I had to choose, I'd probably go with the MP due to me having wilderness carried it for a few years in the US and appreciate it's light weight, but it's awfully close. Holsters are easier to find as well. One thing to be aware of is that MOST MP45 will have a 1911 style safety on them. Some might even have the magazine disconnect (mine doesn't).

Now to make things more complicated, there is a PPQ in .45 as well in the pipeline.................

In that case I probably lean towards the 97. Thanks
PPQ? Meh. close to 6 lb. trigger...not for me unless there is a kit for it out there. Otherwise, well, I was considering german or swiss guns to begin with...

DA is crisp around 9 pounds, SA 4.5 pounds very crisp, no creep, excellent trigger for a fighting handgun, the red dot make it so easy to aquire target, would change a thing now that i tasted it... JP.

Heard about the trigger...so what is different? Can't be too bad if you do a 2" hole ( I only can do that with my Kimber 1911 @ 7yd)

It's a little different to my others... Take up is a little creepy, breaks like glass...I really haven't shot it enough to speculate, and I have never shot one with the lem...just read good things..otherwise took me five rounds to figure the sights ( got to cover the target) it's very well balanced, no more muzzle flip than the sig, and comes right back on target...shooting standing...it's funny, it feels special, or maybe it's just the 900$ I paid for it ....lol

I That's not a HK, the trigger on the fnx is great! being a 1911 guy I found the reset a bit different but its second nature now. They say DA is under 10lbs and the SA is 4, the pistol is fully ambidextrous and has a safety/decocker feature if carrying loaded & cocked is needed (bahahaha). Anyway hit up a few guys in your area try out some guns, see what works for you. My vote is this

1911
FNX
CZ
Sig
Glock
Hk

I've owned them all, and the only one I didn't like was the HK, nice pistol couldn't get used to the mag release

I have a G21 g4, a HK45CT and a Sig 220R and those 3, i never use, the FNX 45 TAC is a lot higher in the food chain... JP.

My non-1911 is an HK USP 45 Tactical. Somebody said they have all the heart and soul of a cinder block...and that's fair. The stock trigger on mine was the best I've run across in a factory gun, and I am very picky about my triggers. But other than that it's a utility gun all the way.

I did the opposite of what you did; I went from the polymer gun back to the 1911. I was going to sell the USP but ... Even cinder blocks can grow on you and for the past 10 years it had been my old friend at the range. If I recall the mags hold 12 but I only shoot 5 at a pop myself. I dunno if HK even makes the USPs anymore. I'm keeping mine but if you ever see one try it out before you make a decision.

I have the same small-ish hand curse as yourself and gravitate to the 1911 single stack grip. That said, I held a Sig 227 with E2 grips on Monday and Im veeeery tempted to drop the coin. I had gone in to guy a 220 Elite in .45 with those beautiful rosewood grips but fot that E2 design comfortable, 10 round mag and all!

I've owned the M&P45, the HK45 and I've fired the FNX. The HK's DA trigger is ugly, the safety/decocker flexes when you use it (it's a fairly thin polymer piece), the gun is very top heavy, too big and the parts are stupid expensive. The FNX's DA trigger is heavy and stacks, but it's better than the HK. The M&P is under rated, I'd pick it before the HK, and because I don't know how they last, or where to get parts or magazines, before the FNX. Glocks in 45 are just ugly to use.

So...that's a smith. Tell me more about it!

I can't say much because I have only shot a buddies M&P9 and ogled the 45 a time or two in a gun counter. The 9 was very nice, trigger was vastly better than my G19 and it fit my smallish hands very nicely. I have been watching for a 45 to come up in the EE but there has been nothing for the last month or so. I really like shooting .45 Auto and my 1911 needs a tupperware companion in the same calibre. After shooting the M&P9 I knew I was going to have to own the 45 at some point.

The non tactical version of the FN FNX can be bought in Canada for around $900. I believe the only differences are that the slide is not milled, the barrel is not threaded and it comes in a different case.

So, that would lead me to the CZ 97...

Not if you have normal hands and not if you do anything other than stand at a bench and shoot - that damn thing is a boat anchor, one designed for people with large hands. The 45 M&P is very marginally larger - as in you have to measure it - in the grip than the 9, the weight is not silly either. Vickers and Hackathorn have said there are 2 modern 45 pistols worth considering, the HK and the M&P - the HK to me, isn't a good choice (but they helped design it - so it will clearly suit them) leaving the "other one". If you really want an all metal gun, get a Sig 220, probably the best out of the box "metal" 45 made - including the 1911.

I have a M&P45, with the Apex trigger kit, that shoots very well. I am very pleased with it and prefer it to my 1911s.

I also have a SIG220. I find it slim, comfortable, with excellent trigger and sights.

Will the Apex kit bring the trigger down to 4.5lb. ? Factory M&P45s are 7 lb from what i read, wich would be more than i like.

Doesn't have to be full metal...it's the trigger weight that scares me on the others, but you're right,if i do a CZ or SIG,i might as well stick to my 1911s...As for the M&P, i would have to handle one with the Apex kit to see, also, from all 45s discussed here, the M&P would hurt the wallet the least.
