Boy oh boy...... what I would give to either A) Have a 12.X put on my license or B) have all prohib's moved into the restricted category.
Declared restricted June 24, 1983.
Declared prohibited February 1994.
Mozambique technique you might want to look into this the FAL is not restricted they are prohibited . Either 12.5 or 12.3 or 12.2. or is that what you meant?
Revival of another old thread.
Oh how I would love to have an FN FAL in my collection, unfortunately though I cannot do that in Canada because:
The 22 years of military service under my belt doesn't mean diddly squat to our country's lawmakers
Even though I have had a PAL for nearly a decade, there are many people in this country who are quite vocal about not trusting me and other PAL holders
I have no criminal convictions or arrests, which means nothing to gun-banners, because according to them I am a problem waiting to happen
My birthdate also seems to have worked against me too, as I lived in an anti-gun home while younger, and my parents wouldn't sign off on an FAC application
No getting into the firearms collecting hobby for me at an early age, prior to the government silliness beginning
The cherry on top was that spineless Canadian politicians and police brass wet their pants on seeing a picture of that FN rifle (not to mention other rifles)
So to suit their own interests, those "all knowing" nit wits decided the FN had to be prohibited
In this land of opportunity and equality, my personal conduct was really irrelevant to those who were pulling the strings at the time
Public safety my ass
I just want to own a freakin' FN
I have semi-auto .308 rifles that are NR, R and Prohib. They all do the same thing in the same way. There is no reason whatever for any of them to made Prohib, or even Restricted. This situation is one of the goofiest things about current firearms legislating, if not the most goofy.
The C1A1 is the first centerfire rifle I ever fired [army cadets]. It's a bit of a beast to shoot and carry over hill and dale for a day, or days on end. But by damn, when you hold one, you know you have something serious in your hands.
An illiterate mountain tribesman can make an AK-47 with hand tools faster than they can needlessly examine a gun.
I was just interested in why they became restricted back in the day.
Through shear luck I owned a few cheap guns in the early 1990's that I managed to get 12.4,5,6 grandfathering. I wish I got that 12.3 though.
Anybody remember what triggered the 1983 Restriction of the FAL and what other gun legislation came in that year?
