2016 "Ugly Gun of the Year" contribution.

Paul... "Yes," the rifle is butt-ugly... yes, I would paint it if I owned it... and then sell it as fast as I could find a blind buyer.

The ring set-up is vomitous... overhanging ejection port by a quarter inch, when you still have a quarter inch of tube to work with???

I am disturbed... I can feel an imbalance in the force... what's your address???

Izz, izz, well chit, izz t'uther side jest azz f'uggly?

Thank-you for the critique. I am glad you found it less than easy too look at. The OCDs are appearing in full force. :)

As per the location of the front ring. I agree with your observations. The std weaver base for the 700 puts the ring too far forward so the scope won't fit between the rings. I am going to use that extension #40A base until I find something better.

Your rings are on backwards - just so you know. :)

Fixed it for you.

Thinking of putting a Remington barrel on my 80's long action howa 1500 long action (since I can't find a howa or vanguard take off) and dropping it into my stripped flamer stock. I stripped the blaze camo off the flamer and haven't got around to painting it. That should qualify for the " ugly rifle list" lol.

You have enough scope tube to work with.... just remove the front base, cut off a 1/4", file it, paint it... reinstall with the ring moved a 1/4" forward.

RatRods I'm slowly beginning to appreciate on some level or other...your RatGun is new to me although I've seen some poor guns in barns and tractors. For sure... TO EACH HIS OWN...enjoy !

A SKS for the win and we all have one for fun sum will hunt with it but it's way more ugly then the ones posted
I have two of the ugly bastards

Kinda got the scope/bases/rings issue sorted out and rid myself of the extension front base using a Bushnell Scopechief VI 4x. All fits together well and weight is down to 7lb 2oz as shown.

Yeah... it makes perfect sense to put a Scopechief on that rifle... I believe you have arrived...

The Scopechief VIs are actually pretty good quality scopes esp for the small price they go for. Try one some time. :)

Shooda left thet dang scowp awn there tuh bee'gin wirth.
I will probably go back to that scope. Just fiddling around. Prob use the 4x as a back-up on my next safari.

Great gun!!!
Can't hate a gun in such a useful chambering. Besides I always say I like the shine off my shooters and my gear in general - not afeared to take it into the bush and actually use it as intended.
