Nice, nice find, londonshooter! How is it choked?
To keep the thread going, here are a couple of pics of a gun I recently picked up from a forum member. It's a JC Higgins model 100 made by AYA in 1954. Not a high end gun by any means. Stories from back then say that Sears contracted with AYA to make a gun to compete with the Winchester model 21 but at a lower price. Don't know if that is the reason it was built or not but it is very well built for the price point back then with several features. Apparently the AYA 100 was only made in 1954 and 1955 and retailed for around $150.00 compared to $350.00 for the base Winchester model 21. It would be nice if it had a splinter forearm but such is life! This particular gun is in very nice original condition with super tight action, mirror bores and barrels that ring like a church bell.

From past articles I've read, supposedly there are a lot of differences between the Matador and the 100 with the build quality being a fair bit higher on the 100. I don't know what all the Matadors had, but the 100 has a horn grip cap, single non selective trigger, ejectors, chopper lump barrels and assisted opening.
The Matador feels like a clunk in my hands. It was built for the N. American market, I think, with beavertail forend, ventilated rib and heavy. A sound enough gun, I suppose, just not to my taste at all. The Matador and Yeoman were much less attractive guns.
I have a model 106 AyA in 16 gauge, a nicely proportioned but modest hunter's gun, double trigger, extractor, Euro stock with cheekpiece. I like its slender European style much better.
Nice group of AYA's. Your top gun looks very much like mine that has Habicht stamped on one barrel. At first I was told that Habicht was a German retailer. However, I believe that information was false as I can find no record of a German retailer with the name Habicht. I have since been informed that Habicht is the German word for "hawk" and that likely this is the model. Your gun is very similar.
