C8

Well here it is.
As you can tell from the pictures, I am pretty happy with my purchase
it is far better than I expected
bolt and bore are pristine

Nice upper! Are you going to get it refinished? Or are you going to leave it as is?

I really dont know, im on the fence on this one, i really like the fact that the wear is due to it actually been used, it has an air of authenticity, but on the other hand i could easily get this refinished. I really dont know.

One thing I really love is the weight, holy this thing is really well balanced on this cc 15.7 with the vltor stock.

Yes those are nice stocks! I usually put that or a Command Arms stock saddle on mine. Looks like you might just have to buy another. Simon at SJ Hardware mentioned he might be getting another batch... I'm definitely buying 2! Won't miss it this time!

My son and I are playing with the C8 upper and some lowers. I'm really warming up to it...it's a very nice compact length. I'm only changing the charging handle as the surplus one I bought comes in 3 different shades of grey, including parts coloured with a black sharpie.

Well I just couldn't help putting a CQB upper together with the extra parts I had.

I don't think Diemaco ever produced this configuration with an A1 upper but I had to give it a shot to see how I liked it.

If you look at the front sight the arrow will be there but not the word "up" since it was not bilingual and was deleted from the CF TDP.

Only in Canada. Guess the French wouldn't understand. :)
Grizz
Same with the rear sight, the R is missing. On early Colt supplied C H uppers you can see where it was taken off with an end mill. The Diemaco forgings never had the R to begin with.

The staking on the bolt carrier was done by a wpns tech and the middle centre punch mark indicates ejector spring update completed.

The CAF is too cheap to buy us proper gas key stalking tools :p

Good to know. I was issued an original C8 in Haiti in 96-97 and we had a lot of ejector related stoppage. We did get the ejector springs changed after every 1K rounds or so. That solved the issue. I would have never expected to have so much range time on tour!

I was wondering about this. I have an old beat up CH forge code upper that has the R milled off and then is hand stamped with an R back in the little circle the mill left. I should strip it and fill in the stamped R and re-finish it for an early 0.625" FSB C8.

I put my spare raptor on this one, but I find it too big, I'll put my bcm on it later. I really dislike the cc charging handles so I didnt buy one.

Is this how it would of looked if an R wasn't re-stamped in there?

Got mine, very happy. Clear scuffs and minor signs of wear but no corrosion or carbon build up.

A couple of years ago, I had a 14.5" barrel turned to C8 specs, refinished then installed on an A1 upper with a Colt CH and Diemaco BCG. It later mated to a CC/Diemaco lower with CC guts and an early C8 Colt aluminum vinyl acetate stock. I figured that was as close to a C8 as I could get, until now. What to do with that upper now???

C8 upper top, clone bottom for comparison:

Could be. My example goes a little deeper so it's a perfect circle. Interesting upper you have. It looks like it was anodized after it was restamped? So maybe it never made it to Diemaco and Colt stamped the R in so they could use it?

As for jman and 8 ball.... I'm sure you guys could easily sell those uppers/barrels to someone who can't afford or find one of these surplus ones. Or you could use the barrel for a C8A1 clone.
