Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

What numpty made you guys use grease? Oh well, sounds exactly like this outfit's type of decision making process.

During the course at PRTC. They also were instructed by the armory to use less grease as that was supposibly causing wear. I kept my mouth shut, but used the right amount. Those who used very little as instructed were getting sticky charging handles at the end of the day and a few ran into stoppages at the very end. Mine kept chugging along. This was the older more gunfighter geared 5 day course. One of the last ones before they changed it. That being said the instructors were very good and it was a great course.

I use G96 and 5w30 full synthetic on the high wear points for my own firearms. Works great. Also works in -50. I've shot an AR308 in sub -30 before no problem with this combo. Sucked but everything functioned well.

I just read all 47 pages and wish I could've skipped the 20 pages of price and screw #####ing.

I'm surprised with all the mention of varmint and coyotes that no one has mentioned .204? Does a 556 bolt face work for 204 Ruger cartridges? My goal would be to see how light I could build one of these, either with pencil or Proof barrel. Be nice to see one in the 5-5.5lb range.

Legitimate concerns. It's already prompted another manufacturer to announce their stripped upper/lower project at under that price. Also no screw for take down. The screw maybe a non issue. I don't like the sounds of it, but I can't really say if it's an issue or not at this time. I do however like hearing other people's thoughts on it and suggestions. We have time until these are out in the wild.

Yes I've heard 5.56 bolt works for .204. But only some mags may work. That's your most likely reliability concern.

I almost mentioned the 204 for varmints as it's a well known seeker of the red mist round at insane fps. But 223 is a lot more common. This thread wasn't really about 204 so I left it out. Neat round though.

Mostly blanks, I assume. So yes, dirty.

You assume incorrectly.

I've got several AR15s of different brands in 5.56 and x39 and it's not uncommon for them to go well over 1000 rounds without requiring cleaning. (I only use non corrosive)

Jesus... I got a light aneurism reading that.

I'd hate to see what the bolt looks like behind the gas rings....

Wasn't uncommon for me to start seeing the odd stoppage after a few hundred rounds or more of live. Not a game ender, but something you'd want cleaned up at the end of the day.

A few hundred?!?!? Something is wrong then. 1000 should be no issue.

Rapid firing tends to burn off the lube.

Even LMG's/GPMG's need a squirt or three of CLP after a few boxes.

I wouldn't dream of going for a thousand rounds before I cleaned (even a rudimentary scrub) anything.

Yeah, that's terrible performance. I have an NEA that I didn't clean for four years. It finally stopped locking back on mags when the bolt stop spring got so packed with crud it stopped working.

Anybody here ever see the BCM filthy 14? At one point it went 25,000 rounds between cleanings, I remember.

My BCM is a Recce gun so I treat it a little more carefully...but it went through 3 carbine courses without being cleaned and I never thought twice about it.

it depends like I said a match chamber with its matching bolt, tolerances are very slim, my noveske spr max 700 rounds at 800 I have many failures, but it shoots 1moa (see trinimon black rifle challenge)

my tavor sure 2-3000 rounds

That's some messed up rifles right there.

Before my Colt Lower/Colt Canada upper rifle I currently have. Even the Bushmaster XM-15 Patrolman I had previously could last a weekend dynamic course (about 1,000 rounds fired over 2 days, lots of rapid shots).
