Auto or revolver for home defence?

Do you prefer an auto or a revolver for home defence? I would shoot it plenty, but the wife probably would not shoot much so maybe the simplicity of a revolver would be better..? What do you use?

No need for both.

Make a big poster on your door "Gun free zone. No intruders allowed". That should defer criminals.

I got a dog. Pretty scary when shes bolts down the wooden stairs in like 2 bounds.

And whatever lying around from reno the house. WHY because I don't want a ugly safe in my bedroom, If I'm walking up in the middle of the night. I'm going to probably forget the code, I'm going to get woken up by my dog barking. Be more worried about why shes barking. I'm going to be half asleep, normally have to pee like a mofo.

Last thing will be oh I need to grab the gun, #### whats the code, #### where did I put my mags.

hmmmmmm........

8th post.....0 feedbacks,,,,,

........do I see a line and a hook.......?

just saying.....

This ^^^. I was going to post, "Is that you, Wendy?" The question could be legit, but IMHO it is pretty fishy (in more than one sense.)

I'd suggest the OP would be better advised to spend time on the 1911 Forum or S&W Forum, which have a Concealed Carry and Self Defence section and he can get 21,857 various opinions, but at least they'll be from people who likely have some legitimate experience. A few have actually had to defend themselves.

Planning to use a firearm for defence in our socialist utopia is of course unnecessary - a gun-free-zone sign on your door should be sufficient. That being said, IF you're unlucky enough to live somewhere where the government is so misguided as to allow that sort of thing, I'd suggest using whatever you train with and are comfortable with. For me, that would be a Glock; for you, it might be something else. Auto vs revolver is really a pointless argument - a quality example of either will work just fine. The shooter is the part of the equation more likely to fail.

If my gun-free-zone sign for some reason doesn't work, I collect medieval (mostly viking and Japanese) weaponry, many examples of which are on my walls. They're there strictly as decoration, but I suppose they could be used (the flats of the swords, of course) to thwack some scalilwag on the head and remind him he's not supposed to be in my foyer.

Failing that, my dog may look friendly.... but he's not.

OK, I'm going to bite :)

If the OP's wife isn't going to be shooting the pistol much - but will be able to access it (obviously she needs a RPAL) - I'd recommend a double-action revolver equipped to take moon clips. Ridiculously easy to load, and all she needs to do if a round misfires is pull the trigger again - no confusion about racking the slide. There are 8-shot revolvers out there in .357 Magnum and .38 Special works just fine in 'em. It also works just fine as a close-up self-defence round when loaded with appropriate bullets.

Keep said revolver in a keypad-controlled safe (in the master bedroom) with a couple of loaded moon clips close by the revolver. I'd also have a lock on the bedroom door to slow down home invaders. Of course, having a phone in the bedroom goes without saying - just so she CAN call 911 and at least get the cops on the way.

Oh, and having a lawyer's unlisted phone number - or some kind of firearms insurance policy - handy is an absolute necessity.

Auto is prohib In Canada! You may be alluding to semi Auto Handguns, restricted but legal for the moment, until Justin's RCMP decide to prohib Semi Auto firearms!
Be prepared to go to Jail if you use those firearms to defend yourself,,, you will likely get out, sooner or later, depending on your lawyer and how much money you have to spend on said lawyers!

The mere sight of a homeowner armed with a samurai sword or Viking broad axe should be sufficient to scare the s**t out of any potential miscreant! They certainly wouldn't anticipate an armed homeowner in the first place and the thought of having a limb lopped off should produce a reaction in the perp that would be wonderful to behold. :)

ps- love the dog... and the red wall.

Assuming the OP's question might be legit, "shredder's" advice is good. In relatively-civil Canada you're unlikely to be facing 4 or 5 assailants. Even the measly 6 rounds from a revolver should be sufficient even in the highly unlikely event that one actually has to fire. I've read threads on the S&W Forum where some folks are confident with a 5-round .38 for concealed carry.
