Thoughts? BLK LBL Bipod handguard on a BCL 102

View attachment 188061

I have the 14" AR15 blk lbl handguard (currently on my MV) and think it's the greatest thing ever. I originally ruled it out for use on my Stag 10 due to it being a little on the heavy side however I'm now thinking it won't be that bad because some of the weight will be offset by using the carbon fiber barrel. Plus once I put a bipod on a lightweight handguard the BLK LBL actually ends up being slightly lighter.

Hmmmm.... only setback is the price.

Have been looking but not having any luck finding a DPMS style AR10/7.62 barrel nut tool/wrench.

I understand that the AR10 size is larger than the AR15 wrench which I already have.

Any suggestions? Hoping for something relatively cheap as don't plan on using it a ton..........thanks, Clint

I’ll let you borrow mine whenever I get mine from Brownells.

I see that Arms East had a sneaky price increase.

It was $800+ for a while as well.

They will need to really un#### themselves before I spend my money there again.

some handguards come with their own wrench. just need a torque wrench.

I have an Armalite AR10 ive only looked at twice in over 5 years so i dont know much about them. from what i read it's not a DPMS pattern. are the mags even compatible?
Don't believe so. That's the problem with the .308 calibre AR style firearms. There is no "mil-spec" like the AR-15 so different companies went with different specs. DPMS seems to be the most common but I know that there were at least 3 different styles, Armalite (AR-10), Rock River & DPMS. All used different mags.

So I have one on order from irg my build will consist of the following

Stag 10 receiver kit
Midwest industries 12" mlok handguard
BCL 18.5" stainless match barrel- as long as the barrel extension works
I'm going to run either my gen 3 prs stock or ubr. Haven't decided yet and both are standing by.
TNA 308 buffer and carbine spring
Geissele ssa-e trigger
Brownells 308 bcg with pof roller cam
Diemaco mag release
Ambi safety
Raptor charging handle
Miad grip
Topped with my eotech exps3
5/20 pmags

Only thing i need to look at is an adjustable gas block.

So as a guy who has zero experience with the AR10 platform, if I wanted to build a retro C7A1-style in .308, is it possible? Can I get a reasonably lightweight 20" .308 barrel with rifle-length gas, the C7-style front sight/gas block, handguard retainer... and will an AR15 handguard fit?

I'm still a bit of an AR10 Newbie as well, but here are my internet findings.

Can I get a reasonably lightweight 20" .308 barrel with rifle-length gas:
Yes, Reasonably lightweight being relative of course. Light + Accurate = $$$

The C7-style front sight/gas block:
Probably, AR15 and AR10 Gas blocks are the same thing, compatibility depends on barrel dimensions.

handguard retainer:
Not Sure, there is usually an equivalent AR10 part.

Will an AR15 handguard fit?
No, AR15 handguards are smaller than AR10 style Handguards.

I think the lighter-weight .308 configuration has potential to sell many times more rifles than a heavy barrelled 6.5 Creedmore long range set up does.

Think "main battle rifle". Keep the weight and price reasonable and they will sell hundreds or thousands. And it will spawn a secondary sales opportunity selling upgrade parts for people who want to upgrade their rifle. Win-win.
