M40 Family - Who owns one?

That sounds like a nice rifle and a long road you're nearing the end of! I've never sent a gun away for work, have no idea what the turnaround times generally are. Any idea how long til you get it back? I'd be dancing at the mailbox every day waiting.

Very nice! And the two thumbscrew cheek piece hardware is the correct style vs mine with the single. Will be nice when you have it all together , they are a heavy rig but very comfortable to shoot.

Our shop is usually 2-3 month turn around time. Other shops I've heard can be up to half a year or more.

Before I bought my current rifle there was an M40A1 clone in a return stock with the certificate on this forums for $2900 (no scope). I tried getting the cash together but couldn't in time. I still regret it. Luckily mt current rifle arrived and I am happy with the way it's shooting.

I bought that one as well

Well I'm off to the shop to play with my rifle a bit and try getting it set up better for the A5 stock I'm using til my HTG comes in. Too cold to work again, turn the tunes up and drink some beer!

Getting the M40A1 ready for some wolf hunting! Neighbour took down three large wolves out of their field just down the road. Going to set up this weekend and watch over the back field.

They are a copy of the lugged, unitized USMC M40A1 mount made by a guy in Cali, plus he also made the repro Simrad mount issued to MEU units. I picked it up a few years ago and have a spare for my next build. Not sure if he's making any more though. One of his repro mounts is on a M40A1 at the USMC museum at Quantico. If ever in D.C take a drive out there it's an awesome museum!

Sorry for the dark photo but that's it in post #48 photo with the Simrad mount. It has to be fitted to a clip slotted or lug slotted action.

That makes more sense, wasnt sure on the M40 mount AG commented on, would be nice to find one for my rifle, I think I know of the guy you mean

for anyone who might be looking, there is a Mcmillan HTG stock for sale in the Precision Parts section for $800 obo. Doesn't say it's for a Remington or not and doesn't state the colour though.

Still no clue of the colour but it' definately for a rem 700 SA footprint....

If i did not already have mine, I'd jump all over this. 800 not a bad price too

I hope that stock gets bought quickly, I don't want to find out its the same as what I ordered a week or so ago!

Well as I said before mine isn't really an accurate copy of any rifle in particular, even less now. All this cold weather has done for me is given me time to continue cobbling away at my Franken-40. I pulled a couple of the spacers out, put a different mount on it to get better eye relief and bedded the action.

Don't be too harsh, it was my first time!

I thought I had glued it together permanently when I tried to separate them the next day, but eventually got it apart and started the cleanup. I have to do some de-burring as the brass is getting really scored up when feeding out of the magazine. Action seems tight in the stock now though, so that's good. Still need a trigger too.

Still a good looking rifle! Funny that you had place a WTB ad looking for an HTG stock and after you order a new one, a used one shows up in the EE. Always the way!

So far I've got these three manuals (two came with the gun). Always on the lookout for other "accessories" or "kit" that will go along with the rifle.
