The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

I just bought a new GSR 308 stainless laminate.
I am looking to buy the radial brake from the synthetic rifle to replace the bird cage. Anybody know where to find one?
Brownells don’t have it and they cannot order one.

I really like this rifle. At first the bolt was rough but after 150 round it became significantly smoother!

Try contacting snapshotsguns.com who are the Ruger agent in Canada. I believe the Ruger part number for the MUZZLE BRAKE .308 CALIBER 5/8-24 is Item Number: 90602 and the price is $59.95 according to the Ruger catalog. They are very good to deal with

The Ruger GSR is different from most other modern bolt action rifles in a number of different ways. In particular it has a stepped barrel like military Mausers, I am not aware of any other modern bolt action rifles with stepped barrels and I am curious as to why Ruger choose to use a stepped barrel with the Ruger GSR.

How accurate are your Guys Ruger GSS rifles in 308 - Mine is Really accurate with my hand load of 45 grs H4895 under a Horn 150 gr SST bullet sparked by a CCI BR2 primer .

Shot a 9/16" 3 shot group at 100 yards off a Harris bipod ! Yea it was maybe ? LUCKY But still did it ! Most of the time I can get 1-1.5 " 3 shot groups - Pretty DAM good thru a Red Dot no mag sight ! jmo RJ

Mine is pretty accurate, more than enough for its application. I've taken 3 Whitetail and 1 Moose with it. Most shots were between 100-200 yards and none of them went more than a couple of feet afterwards before expiring.

A stepped barrel was part of Cooper's original design for the Scout, largely I believe to give the front mount more stability.

Been a while since I posted here, but for those applicable, is anyone somewhat dissatisfied with their XS scout rail? The issue I've had was with the supplied mounting screws; the slots are so small and I've stripped them trying to tighten. Went back to the factory rail towards the end of last year's season.
