The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

would love to find a 16" right hand bolt with threaded muzzle in .223 but as posted earlier, discontinued by ruger.
it would be perfect to pair with my 308 version.
eyes are wide open for a used one to pop up.

They have certainly gone up a lot in price in the last couple of years, also you can no longer buy the synthetic stocked blued steel version, only the stainless is currently available.

Just finished up some DIY paint on the Ruger Scout, turned out pretty decent. Posted an expanded thread on it showing step by step in the Hunting and Sporting Arms Forum.

Potshot nicely done!

Did you carry it around this hunting season? How did the paint hold up?

Also, could you snap a picture from the top view. How does it look without the rail? Did you do anything to hid the screw holes?

Joined the GSR ranks today with an 18” ss 308, gonna be a week or 3 before it arrives, what are you all finding as an accurate factory varmint cartridge?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I carried it for around for about a week and half straight this fall and the paint held up well through all the balsam patches and hazel brush, no flaking or scratches. Was even surprised when the snow and cold hit that it stood up fine. Unfortunately for me, the only blood it saw was that of a partridge, them 150 gr. Accubonds put him down quick with a through and through head shot

I didn't fill the screw holes as my plan for next year is to throw and XS Rail on it and mount a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 on it. I love the iron sights, but I want to give that particular scope a shot and see if I like it better. I'll snap a top view picture tomorrow for ya!

Gotcha!

Experimenting is always exciting.

I’m planning on swapping out from my burris scout scope, get rid of the rail and run a conventional 2-10xish scope.

I missed running the Ruger and detachable mag this fall even though my other rifle did the trick.

I'm currently using a XS rail and a SWFA 1-4 Illuminated on my GSR. it's an ideal scope for a carbine like the GSR. But I've been thinking of trying to track down a Vortex PST 1-6 for my 6.5 Grendel which is also a LPVO and then I started thinking that it would cool to have scope compatibility with the GSR too...So the SWFA might go up for sale. I know there was someone on here that was looking at it, but can't recall who. :)

here is a pic of mine with the rail.
