Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

It likely is that . I have a $2500 handgun that’s payed for in limbo awaiting transfer since 28th of April . Store got payed so no rush for them

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news and hope the dealer you ordered from doesn't ship with UPS.
My orders are stuck in a warehouse in Ottawa and Montreal.

If you filed a complaint with the Ombudsman, just respond to their e-mail and give all the details! I am against people humiliating themselves with statements like "waiting patiently". WHY?
This is my suggestion to the Ombudsman: Ontario MUST update its legislation or regulations with FIRM time frames:
"The staff at the Orillia office of the CFO are civilians! They are not RCMP staff. They work from home and they probably have the same issues as everyone else: children around them, poor internet connection or VPN that drops, etc. However, it is NOT acceptable to have a backlog of 75,000 transfers!! This situation is unique to Ontario. All other provinces have reasonable transfer times (2 to5 days in BC).
It is obvious that there is a lack of maximum transfer time period in the legislation, and this must be addressed ASAP, at the Ombudsman initiative, by the Legislature. Just enforce a maximum allowable transfer time, so that the CFO hires or sub-contract the activity of issuing transfers and if NOT respected, then allow stores to simply ship the restricted firearms to their owners when the period expired. In the US, the stores are asking for a background check from the FBI and if no response comes in 3 business days, they simply give the gun the the buyer. If a person buys 3 guns in different stores, there are 3 background checks. Here, in Canada, the process is much easier because ONLY people holding a license can buy a restricted firearm. If RCMP does its job (and they do it fast!), then the issuance of the provincial transfer should be legally enforced to last let's say 14 business days. If no transfer paper is issued, the seller is released of any obligation and he ships (gives) the gun to the buyer. The verification was already performed by the RCMP.
With current waiting periods in Ontario of 8 to 12 weeks, each gun store has now transformed in warehouse holding all the guns sold in the last 3 months, but waiting that piece of paper. There are major security risks coming with this.
"

First of all, it’s not an RCMP office, but an OPP detachment. Second, they don’t work from home. They should, but they don’t.

I got an email from ombudsman today too. It seemed like a standard cop/paste email which means they must be getting lots of complaints; MAYBE that is a good thing???

I will fill out all the questions and respond today.

I also heard from the Ombudsman too today...same message as everyone else, haven't replied yet but I will.

One transfer started on April 16th...40 days ago (almost 6 weeks), and another only on May 14th.

Thought it would be relevant to your argument to the powers that be. Sorry to piss you off. Carry on

I appreciate the info, as I referenced the efficiency of transfer processing times for our Western friends on my complaint to the ombudsman.
