Potshot nicely done!
Did you carry it around this hunting season? How did the paint hold up?
Also, could you snap a picture from the top view. How does it look without the rail? Did you do anything to hid the screw holes?
One on ####### nowis there any 308 left hand somewhere in canada?
A little later than I said it would be, but here is a picture from the top looking down. I didn't put anything in the empty screw holes for this season, I'm thinking of putting on an XS sight rail to conventionally mount an optic as opposed to the whole scout setup. Paint held up well, no noticeable damage to the finish after bailing into the alders and hazelbrush a few times.

Thanks for the picture. Better later then never.
I’ll have to look into what people are using to fill those holes.
I’d like to remove the rail system and just run a conventional scope on it.
A few years ago I took the rail off and started searching for plug screws. Ruger wouldn't ship them, nor would anyone else in the U.S. I think it was because of the Itar regs.
So I eventually found some socket head screws of the correct thread and cut them to the proper length with a dremel tool.
Unfortunately it's been so long that I don't remember the thread pitch and I don't have the rifle with me to check. Not much help I know, sorry, but the picture lets you see what they look like installed.

I tried posting the picture instead of the link but I'm on a phone that doesn't like me.
I've been getting some really nice groups with the stock Ruger aperture sights, but have always been curious how much the groups would shrink with a good scope on it! I know I'm not the best shot with iron sights, but this thing makes it seem easy. Easily one of my favourite rifles for hunting with.
