Operation: Brno single-shot STOCK Rescue !!

Stock is in transit back to me. No photos yet.
Stock was completely reshaped. LOP shortened from 14.75 to 14 inches. 24 LPI checkering. Ruger-style side panels. Steel grip cap and buttplate with widows peak, blued. Shortened forend. African blackwood tip with a subtle schnabel and a widows peak.

Stock arrived today. I love the new shape! I sent the handguard back for a few "tweaks". It will be another few weeks at least before I can have it all back together. The checkering is excellent and the slim stock really compliments the slim receiver. Good grip with the metal buttplate.

The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to shoulder... it just plants into my shoulder with ease. The checkering on the buttplate also provides a firm grip.

Looks great, bet it is going to be spicy if you keep it bare and in general

What are you changing on the fore end?

We are still waiting, popcorn in hand, to see it finished

I meant bare as in no scope; thinking weight wise.

Bet you a few ounces with the reshaping too.

Not so much the field shooting but the sighting in and load development that can be a bit of a chore

I have a new Bushnell 3500 and Zozap (Brno) mount boresighted and ready to go. I will probably switch between scope and sights. I can use my sissy pad during load development. ;)

Can I ask what finish he used for the stock? It isnt schaftol by the look of it. It looks very very nice by the way....

At the end of the day, I opted for a rub on poly finish so that I can use it in the field with less fuss. It's the exception, as just about every other rifle I own has an oil finish.

Feel free to post updated photos :). How does it shoot?

Don't really have a lot of pics after the 1st ones.

I wanted to shoot up a bunch of WW760 in it but it just refused to shoot that under any loads at all. Chris had warned me about that as he shot it a bit as well. I was fairly sure that it was the bullets not the powder, but in the end, he was dead right.

I ended up getting 1" groups with 120gr NBTs and Varget. Also got a +/- 1" moose load with 160gr NPs so I'm pretty much covered. The 160s worked fine on a smaller bull moose in NFLD in 2020.

What is the action? Can’t read it when I zoom in

It's a commercial FN from a JC Higgins M50. I didn't want to get too spendy with the rifle as it was to be a working gun for the most part. Didn't get any engraving or CCH. The bluing was hot bluing with a satin finish and the stock has a poly finish for the rain which it has seen and worked well.

I regret not getting sights that would be closer to the Rigby originals but have not lost any sleep over it. :)
