1911's to be found anywhere?

Oh good find! Do I get the Springfield mil spec for $1099, hold out for either a basic Colt or S&W e-series, or buck up and get the Colt competition for $1800? My max budget was ideally $1500 and wouldn't be used for competitive shooting... Anyone have advice?

If you need longer trigger, beavertail etc than the Colt Competition or the Springfield Garrison would be better choice. The new Colt frames have a very prominent undercut near the trigger guard and bevelled mag well too. If you are planning on having the pistol customized later, the Springfield's frame has a more classic contour and provides an excellent blank canvas. The Colt Classic or their basic Series 70 or 80's without beavertail etc are better for a base gun in a similar fashion.

To be a true 1911 does it need to be Single Action ?

Basically, yes. There were some DA conversions in the past and even Colt marketed the Double Eagle in the 1990's (there's one on EE right now), but the 1911 is an SAO platform. There are some guns that would best be described as 1911ish. The Wilson EDCX9 falls into this category. It looks like a 1911 but it's basically a double stack 9mm pistol with 1911ish slide mounted on a grip that is more similar to a Beretta 92F in terms of bore height (the beavertail is lower than a true 1911). The trigger and safety is more 1911 style on the EDCX9. Bill Wilson is a huge Beretta 92 fan so this makes sense.

If it were me I'd go with the Colt Competition. Now that the government is on recess until September I suspect most dealers are going to be restocked with handguns in about 3 weeks.

guess it depends on what you are looking for. was hoping for a pietta 1851 but sold out and no resupply was expected until summer 2023...

Thank You ! The Beretta M9 looks like a nice pistol !

The Springfield looks a lot more like the classic early 1911, so if you're looking for a piece of nostalgia that might be the one. The Colt Royal Blue is that even more so, but blows past your budget (and, unfortunately, mine).

The Competition model brings in all the tweaks from a century and more of development and refinement and competition so if you're looking for something more modern, or for a longer beavertail to keep your hand a bit safer from slide bite it would be a fine very shootable choice.

The 1911 is a very customizable platform, but you're almost always better off buying the one that already looks like what you want and not going down the extra-time-and-money modification road.

Easthill outdoors has some 1911s in stock (mostly Colt) in .45acp and 9mm in case anyone is interested.

So I decide to buck up and buy it, and in the time it takes me to add to cart and grab my wallet, it sold! Again! Damn family dinnertime :)

The panic is over. Stuff is lasting the afternoon now when it would’ve lasted 10 min a week ago. You could see dealers restock a couple of more times before it’s too late. I’m holding out for a stainless garrison.

I heard a rumour on Reddit that FOC was supposed to get some in stock this week... But the week is almost over. That's my plan too, I'll be sure to let you know if I see any

I am looking as well. FOC has a Combat Elite Commander and an Officer Concealed carry for $2,800 and $2,900 respectively. Haven't seen anything else the past few days though. Anyone else spot any 1911s? Looking to spend under $2,100

My hunt continues too. Irunguns.ca had a few yesterday but they went within minutes. They might still have some less known ones, but I'm holding out for a more "affordable" Springfield or Colt

A little off topic, but I picked up a DA 1911A1 from a fellow nutter here, and was wondering if anyone knows where to get some bits and pieces? Specifically an ambi-safety, but maybe also grips, and beavertail. I haven't checked Numrich, but I was hoping something this side of the 49th...
