Update On Ontario Restricted Transfer Times

Person to person transfers initiated require phone calls or emails, then they have to phone the parties involved.

I've never been phoned by the CFC for a private transfer. It's always been the seller calls to initiate, obtain a transfer number, and then give the transfer number to the buyer who then calls the CFP to complete the transfer; or at least to initiate the interminable "off to the CFO" waiting portion.

In Ontario I was called by whoever the 800 number belongs to,they verify my info and that I am the one who the firearm is being transferred to.
They also have to call and speak to the seller-that is when the transfer is initiated by email.

Interesting. I've never had that happen. I wonder why the variation in procedure and how many people have had it work that way?

The bottom line is that if your transfer was started on June 1 and it just came through after 83 days, it took 83 days to complete your transfer. If that level of simplicity upsets you, then so be it.

No it’s not. June 1st transfers are different from June 2nd’s because May 27 is different from May 28.
Same logic, June 1st transfers are different from July 1st transfers.

No idea but since it's so hard to get through when you call them, the seller and I tried the email approach to initiate the transfer.
In that case they call both parties.
Since many person to person transfers are done by the seller calling in all they have left is to call the buyer.

Ahhh. Okay. So it seems like that's what they do if transfers are initiated by email; which I've never done.

I think there are people spreading misinformation here.

I have initiated/completed 4 transfers by mail.
In each case I have a reference number and serial number to identify which ref # belongs to which firearm.

I am not expecting any phone calls from either the CFP or CFO.

I would expect that mailed in transfers that were incomplete (such as no signature, or an incorrect registration number) would just get tossed, I would not expect the CFP to call. The CFP don't even call or email to supply a reference number for a good transfer, why would they waste time with people who can't follow simple instructions to complete a form? (which as an aside there seems to be an abundance of on this forum)

I have had discussion with the CFO and the person told me that all that needs to happen now is for the CFO to approve.
So that may take some time, but I'm not expecting any calls.

BUT I Have been to my MPP's office to discuss the slow service in person. Some more people on here should do that

Ok. Real life experience. I was called by someone from 1800 number. (Caller ID said RCMP) Nice LADY called to verify a "mail in transfer". Signature was missing. It's a province to province. Not possible to get a signature. Everything else was fine. Not everyone is incapable of filling out a simple form. Sometimes, other factors are in play. Call lasted all of 2 minutes. Also, they do not throw out forms. People make mistakes, including those who approve our transfers. The seller was directed to mail in the form because the phone lines were unuseable/dead/busy. It was mailed in mid June and I received a call 5 weeks later. I was issued a number in the 597###x range. To clarify, it's a private to private. Buyer is me in ON. Just a little real life experience to help educate and pass on. I hope this helps.

Here’s a fun fact . Wife bought a handgun maybe June 1-2 can’t remember now but anyhow registration just showed up in the mail today . She wasn’t even contacted by the store to pick it up but here’s the really fun part , the registration was issued on august 16th

The stores apparently arent getting the transfers, its emailed to the buyer now, you have to forward it to the store. At least thats what ive been told by my local shop.
