Remington 7600 tips/advice

I'm curious folks - What do you think the chances are of coming across a shooter grade 760/7600 in 35 Remington or 35 Whelen, at a reasonable price?

Depends on what you call reasonable….2 years ago reasonable was $4-500. Now reasonable is probably $7-800. Or at least that’s what they seem to be advertised for. Let’s be honest we’re now in a land of $1000 Winchester 94’s, and $2000 Marlin guide guns.

There are a few 35 Whelens around. a WTB on the EE might turn one over this long winter looming before us.

You might have better luck finding a 141 in 35 Remington if a 35Rem is preferred.

Where do they rank on the scope quality scale? I am unfamiliar with them.

They're not Swarovskis but they only cost $600. I have a 1-6x SFP on my .223 rifle and another rimfire 1-6x SFP rimfire on my Tuff22. Both work great.

Just bought a PA 1-8x SFP from CTS and got 10% off on the scope. I bought a set of low Leupold QD rings from Wanstalls.

Not decided on the folder stock yet. Keeping it Fuddish with the Remington stock might have its advantages.

I sure wouldn't complain if I found a good deal a 141 in 35Rem! But I'd still be looking for a 760 in the same, the detachable box magazine is high on my list of priorities.

My SIL has a folder on his 7615 in 223. I wouldn't take one of those for free. Feels like it's going to break when you throw it up to your shoulder.

That’s always the problem. Trying to find a “good” folding stock is almost impossible. Most have some slop, or play in them. Cheek weld is atrocious. And many of them are so bulky with the hinge mechanism that they negate many of the benefits of a folder. That’s part of the problem with folders on rifles. If your looking for something for short range where accuracy isn’t your biggest concern, then the slop/bad cheek weld on a folder isn’t a big deal. But if you are looking at a folder for convenience on a rifle, but want it accurate out past 300, folders leave a lot to be desired. And I should clarify here that I’m talking about folders that would fit this rifle. If you have a folder on an MDT, Cadex, or AI chassis they lock up solid. Unfortunately, with the 760/7600 line you are pretty much restricted to folders made for 870 shotguns, and they ain’t no sniper rifle.

Magpul would be my choice for an upgrade to the fixed stock on the 7615, I have used a butler creek folder and it's not to bad.

Yick…. These are meant to be “fudd” guns. Putting a folder on a 7600 is like putting a rail and Tupperware on a 30-30. Not cool man!

I agree ..... My inner FUDD be looking for a walnut stock off a 7600 if that were mine.

A gunstock made of melted down ice cream tubbs just doesn't cut it. :)

Maybe true. Wood is always beautiful on a classic. BUT, the Magpul stock makes it a lot more comfortable to shoot with a nice cheek weld, due to the adjustable comb. Sometimes beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and when a stock lets you shrink your groups really close to MOA it gets a lot prettier.

Lot's of options for sure, fashion or function, take your pick and maybe even get both depending on your tastes!

I like wood, but magpull nailed their 870 stock shape ergonomically, plus once you have an AR magwell hanging off the bottom of the receiver it's already left the barn....
