Remington 7600 tips/advice

Going to the gunsmith tomorrow, shortening to 18.6", threading to 1/2 x 28, re-installing the front sight.

The low QD rings work well and I'm getting an OK cheek weld.

Nice, you will love it with the shorter barrel.. Please post the name of the gunsmith. There doesn't seem to be many who can work on these guns.. Disregard, I went back a few posts and see you posted the gunsmith.

Only semiautos have to be kept at a barrel length of 18.6". Everything else can legally be shortened to 18.1". Might as well get that extra half inch...

I'm going to want a light mount as well as an IR laser. I'm thinking about drilling the left side of the forend and then bolting a short Pic rail.

Any other suggestions?

Well, this is what I’ve got on mine, but I ordered it years ago when you could get it through Brownell’s. Brownell’s no longer carry’s Amega Ranges, and they don’t ship to Canada. I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get another one for another 760/7600 build.

Might even have to pull the one I’ve got and ship it to somebody like P R Cook (gunsmith on here) and see if he can build me another one.

Very cool!

Yep, they are. Drilling the forend and mounting a piece of rail works too. For the light mount. It’s not going to work for an IR laser. Your forend will move around to much for a laser to be any good. (If I’m understanding correctly - the laser would be for aiming?)

Yes, the IR laser and illuminator will be for use with my NOD.

I could mount the IR laser on the objective lens of the scope if I can find a 30mm ring with Pic rail on it.

The other thing, looking back at the pictures, that I’ll suggest. Especially with you being in the mainland. Get the metal coated. Ceracoat, Duracoat, Armacoat. Just something to keep it from rusting after you’ve done all this work to it.

You're right, the modern Rem bluing sucks and rusted in my gun cabinet.

Agreed - Couldn't you just use a barrel clamp pic rail? Might have to shim to get it to fit, but it would be a more or less permanent attachment so that wouldn't matter much.

That's a possibility too but I was planning on putting a bayonet lug up front for an M7.

I might be able to mount a small IR laser on an offset 45 degree pic rail between the scope rings on the left side of the receiver. That way it won't move when the forearm is pumped, it'll stay in place when the scope is removed by the QD rings and it'll be close to coaxial with the bore.

I just need to get the rifle back from Rusty Wood to see if it'll work.

Here's how it turned out.

Still need a rail for a light and IR laser.

I get a good cheekweld with the low rings.

I plan to zero the irons at 50 yards.

With the 4 round mags it's very low profile.

KePet has very generously sent me a pic rail that can be mounted on the scope. i may use that for the IR laser if I can find another LaserMax. They don't seem to be maing them anymore.

Sighted it in today in poor rainy conditions. MARSTAR copper wash 150 gr FMJ.

I forgot my spotting scope and bags.........

Zeroed the irons at 25 yards and had to lower rhe rear sight as low as it will go on the ramp. I may have to replace the front sight with a taller blade and red tube.

Zeroed the scope at 25 yards then at 100 yards it shot a 2" group 2" left and 4" high.

I'll get some decent 150 gr hunting ammo and see how it does. But I'll bring my bags and spotting scope.......

I bought 3 four round mags off the EE and they all ran perfectly as did the Mambamag.
