Where did all the affordable .416's go?

I had a few Vanguards rebarrelled, 9.3x62, 375 Ruger and 416 Ruger , I was going to go 416 Remington but the mag box on a 300WM was too short and nobody would give me a firm price on lengthening. There is no logic for me in getting a 416, I just wanted one and I like Vanguards. I added B C stocks to them and I am quite happy. Both the 416 and 375 are in Stainless. I had considered rebarreling a model 70 for the 416 but I got a good deal on the vanguard. In the past year I have seen a couple of Rugers in 416 for sale and they were cheaper than my projects. I tried to get the gunsmith to use Buckmastr's reamer but He insisted on using a new one.

I’ve had a .416 of one size or another for over 30 years. Buddies had Taylor’s, great round, all the power needed. I’ve stayed with Remingtons and Rigbys. More power than you need, but work very well. Ultimate horse power, go Rigby. Loaded to basically Weatherby specs they are a handful and need to be in a larger gun. The Remington can but housed in an 8-9 lb. gun and can be loaded to pretty crazy speeds. 300-350 gr. Bullets make it an easy 300 yard gun. Oh, back to the thread. Ya just rebarrel your favourite long action and have at it.

If I was in the market for a 416, I'd look at the Ruger African in 416 Ruger.

Corlane Sporting Goods has one in stock at $2249.99

It doesn't have the heritage the 416 Rigby has, but considering how prices have gone a bit crazy...

Lol, this thread reveals that a couple years back, .416's of any description were thin on the ground. Fast forward to today; all the Kool Kids are posting threads here and elsewhere explaining how .22-cal superduper cartridges are the hot ticket for elk and other big game.

This is no longer a retail environment that favours the sale of big-bore cartridges. Today's hot-ticket shooting items are mouse guns...and, of course, laser rangefinders that read out to 5 km.

Just added some for effect ;)

My 458win barreled action is in town waiting for it to come home, probably on Monday can’t wait to mount the scope back on it and hit the range to make sure it shoot where it should and then out to look for a bison!!

I've been on the hunt now for a rifle chambered in one of the .416s for some time but they seem impossible to find.

Since CZ discontinued their 550 line and Sako discontinued their 85 line, finding a rifle chambered in .416 Rigby/Ruger/ RemMag for under $3,000 has been a challenge.

As far as I'm aware the Winchester Model 70 and the Ruger Guide Gun/African are the only remaining choices that are supposedly still in production, however they are continually out of stock.

Are there any others that I'm forgetting?

I know there are rifles out there from Heym/Rigby/H&H etc. but they cost many 10s of thousands.

Is buying second hand my only option for this hunt?
I rebarreled many rifles to .416 Remington for customers... used Remington 700 and Sako actions, it's very easily done. You don't have to buy a "factory" chambered rifle.
