Where did all the affordable .416's go?

I had a few Vanguards rebarrelled, 9.3x62, 375 Ruger and 416 Ruger , I was going to go 416 Remington but the mag box on a 300WM was too short and nobody would give me a firm price on lengthening. There is no logic for me in getting a 416, I just wanted one and I like Vanguards. I added B C stocks to them and I am quite happy. Both the 416 and 375 are in Stainless. I had considered rebarreling a model 70 for the 416 but I got a good deal on the vanguard. In the past year I have seen a couple of Rugers in 416 for sale and they were cheaper than my projects. I tried to get the gunsmith to use Buckmastr's reamer but He insisted on using a new one.

I’ve had a .416 of one size or another for over 30 years. Buddies had Taylor’s, great round, all the power needed. I’ve stayed with Remingtons and Rigbys. More power than you need, but work very well. Ultimate horse power, go Rigby. Loaded to basically Weatherby specs they are a handful and need to be in a larger gun. The Remington can but housed in an 8-9 lb. gun and can be loaded to pretty crazy speeds. 300-350 gr. Bullets make it an easy 300 yard gun. Oh, back to the thread. Ya just rebarrel your favourite long action and have at it.
