this is not a multiple barrel/stock/mag rifle system it is a benelli r1 30-06 with a 2-7 leupold scope. that post was a wish list for the rifle i am not sure it would ever happen and is not really within the scope of the questions that i have been asking but thank you for your contribution to the discussion.

not to fan the flames, but i dont understand -- if you already own the gun why ask people for opinions on it? you could buy the best gun on earth and youll still get 4-5 people telling you its a POS on GCN or any net gun forum.
as for the 'effective range' of your combo - the combo is not just the scope and gun and ammo, the combo is the scope/gun/ammo and YOU. so the effective range of the gun is whatever distance you can reliably hit your 6-8" vital area at. if you are only capable of shooting a 6" group at 100 yards offhand then that is your effective range. if you can shoot a 6" group at 300 yards, then that is your effective range. IMO its kindof silly to be asking this on a forum since it all depends on YOUR shooting skill, the game you are hunting, and your particular gun. you have to head out to the range and determine the max effective range yourself.
that said, i was looking into either a BAR or a Benelli R1 a few months ago and from everything that i read/heard about it the R1 is about a 1.25-1.75" gun at 100 yards if the shooter does their part - which is actually, IMO, impressive for a factory .30-06 semi.

i was not ever really looking for effective range either but i would like to know what others with this particular gun have used in the past or currently for a deer load or moose load and if they use the same load or if they use different loads. i have heard a few different opinions on this. some old timers have told me to get used to one load through the gun and get good with it and only use it. just pick an appropriate load for the largest game you hunt. while others have said that since ammo technology is so advanced right now that i can really pinpoint ammo and application like never before. since i obviously dont have that much experience with ammo selection does anyone have any ideas regarding this question. thanks
Get some Federal 180gr power-shoks for target shooting and Federal Vital-shok with the 180gr partitions for the big game. Stop asking about your gun, because they're all different and srt4u2nv's gun might work better with totally different ammo than yours. That's the problem with off the shelf ammo, you can't tweak it.

The cheap Federal 180's work as well in .30-06. I once shot a large muley @ 20-25 yards through the left hip, vitals and into the right shoulder once. Dropped the deer in 20 yards and I recovered the bullet, 90% intact.
i was looking at the fusions in the store yesterday and they are fairly cheap! certainly less money than the 300 win mags was. i will try them i also saw the federal 180 grains and i bought some of those i will be heading out to the range hopefully this weekend if all works out with work and i can tell y'all who have been very helpful just how well this combo works. any other ammo suggestions are certainly welcome as are any words on the gun itself.

You lost a couple of hundred feet per second. That's it. Nothing else. (that's without comparing barrel lenght from your old rifle.)

I'm shopping for a new 300wsm moose gun, i like the new T3 camo stainless but i cant find any good deals or sites. My local gun shop is selling them for almost 1200, for a mag! so if you have any good links i would be very thankful

Probably more like 350-400 fps from a bolt action 300 win mag to a semi 30-06. IF you don't own a chronograph or know someone with one assume 308 velocities form the 30-06 semiauto as the action cycling bleeds off some of the gas that drives the bullet.
I have one in 300 win mag.
I get the performance of a 300 Win Mag, but with only a .270's worth of recoil, and that works for me.
And as far as some on here saying a semi is not as accurate as a turnbolt...well I guess they have never tried this rifle.
Mine is very accurate, and I'd have no problems taking a shot at a Deer vitals out to 500 yards.
Actually the gas cylinder is near the chamber so it is far more efficient then other semi designs.
BTW folks the 10 round Mag is an optional feature not a standard one.
My 300 holds 3 rounds in it's magazine.

I do have a chronograph, just no autoloaders. If they lose that much performance who in their right mind would buy them......
ok we are compairing apples to oranges 300WSM vs .30-06 is not even close guys.
I'm sure when you go from a bolt gun to semi in the same caliber you dont loose much speed 5-10fps maybe and thats all that matters. Not the differenct between the 300wsm and .30-06 your compairing a magnum cartridge to a standard it doesnt make sence.

I read an article in the rags somewhere a while back that a 30-06, I think a BAR produced velocities in the 2600 fps range from a 24 inch barrel with 180 gr loads.
