Lockhart Tactical Raven Platinum Edition, .223 Wylde

Yes. In fact, they take AR15-standard Bolts, Barrels, Mid-Length Gas Systems, Buffer Tubes, Buffers and Springs, Muzzle Devices, Trigger Mechanisms, Magazines, and more. Basically, if it is not the Upper Receiver, Lower Receiver (with proprietary Magazine and Bolt Catches), Bolt Carrier or Charging Handle, it is AR15-compatible for ease of parts replacement.

The reason I ask is I keep seeing firing pins included with the bolt carriers in their pictures, not bolts not campins but just the firing pin. Did yours come with a firing pin from Lockhart or did you use your own AR15 ones?

These are nothing like an AR. Totally different. My friend just got one and set the gas valve at 15 clicks. He has put 40 rounds of the cheap American Eagle ammo through it with out a hiccup. He said next time he goes out he is going to try turning down the gas a little for softer recoil.

Totally different? If you say so.....

Good question - I compared the Lockhart Raven 5.56mm Firing Pin to a standard AR Firing Pin and the Raven Pin is noticeably longer by approximately 15mm. It has been lengthened the same as the Upper and Lower Receivers, the Bolt-Carrier and the Charging Handle. If anyone finds any other Raven 5.56mm parts that are different dimensions from standard AR15 parts, please mention it in this thread.

Hey so would you confirm for me again whether the AR15 firing pin works in the gen 2 BCG? Or is this a part we would likely have to keep as a spare?

Another question about firing pin/bolt: When you dry fire an AR15, the pin is stopped by the flange hitting the tail of the bolt. In the raven, do you know what stops the firing pin? Is it the flange on carrier or is it pin tip on bolt face hole (like an HK416)?

While I’ve never broken an AR firing pin, there’s a little more risk in investing in the platform relying on the company’s manufacturing quality. Still the best NR AR type rifle out there I can’t deny.

If by "totally different" you mean 15mm longer, that would be correct for those specific components. You forgot the Lower Receiver and the Firing Pin, which have also been lengthened by 15mm. That said, no good can come of a discussion concerning the design and parts commonality shared between the Raven 5.56 and the AR15. I will therefore refrain from further discussion of that particular topic. The Raven's design was sufficient to earn it a NR FRT Entry from the RCMP Special Services Section. That's plenty good enough for me, so let's just enjoy our new NR DI rifle option!

To confirm, the Raven 5.56 Firing Pin and the AR15 Firing Pin are INCOMPATIBLE. The Raven Pin is 15mm longer than the standard AR15 Firing Pin. Neither will work in the other's place.

I have no idea what (if anything) stops the forward movement of the Raven 5.56 Firing Pin once it is struck by the Hammer.

There have been no reports of a broken Raven Firing Pin to date. FWIW...

Exactly can’t agree more.

Good info. If you would indulge me, an AR10/SR25 firing pin is actually 0.656” or 16.5mm longer than an AR15 one, including a longer rear where the hammer strikes… so perhaps if one needs to fabricate a spare(turn down those extra flanges), you might be able to use AR10 pins if other dimensions fit. Just a thought.

Check it out, the profile is almost identical if the extra flange is gone, it’s just longer. I reckon the body of the firing pin might actually work well as a spare.

Why not just buy a spare Firing Pin from Lockhart Tactical?

Investigating the possibility of not using proprietary parts. AR15/10 firing pins are $10-20 and the world is full of it.

How much are Raven ones? If Bob plans on having 5 Ravens and wants one spare pin per rifle how much is Bob going to be spending?

$59 with spring
You can get a a wear part parts kits for $229 that includes a bunch of stuff

Yup I'm getting <1 MOA with 25.75 gr of varget behind a 69 gr SMK, velocity is 2850 fps.

In this image the 25.75 is the right target, 26 gr is the left

In this image its the middle row centre target

I started at 24.5 (top left), 25.0 (top centre), 25.25 (top right), 25.5 (middle left), 25.75 (middle middle)

I did have a slight cross wind at about 9 KMH hoping to retest on a calmer day
