My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I for one would be disappointed if this thread was to end. It is a great challenge for rimfire shooters.

It's also very humbling, as it's not actually that easy to accomplish with the rifles and ammufnition that most people buy and shoot.

If this was a thread for hard-core br guys, I didn't know when I submitted my attempt. I can only guess but I bet there are some who want to participate but have shied away because of the members who take this too seriously.

Sadly that is what I noticed with any rimfire challenge posted here. You get the hardcore taking over and it's almost like they're jealous, someone using cheaper equipment than them.

We had this guy come to our club intrested in our F class. The elite rimfire guy basically told him he needed 5k in order to compete. I told the guy you don't. Can get started with a 64, and that got #### on..

I certainly want this thread to continue. It is supposed to be about the fun of the personal challenge with your own rifle and ammo.

I give Underthegun a thumbs-up for running this thread, and encourage you to continue. Its a great challenge and your work makes the Rimfire Forum better.

I know what it takes to be a moderator for online forums and threads, and Mod's/volunteers don't need the hassles of sorting out dust-ups.

So I am good with Underthegun's direction and rulings on his thread. It works for me.

Therefore I remove any question I had of anyone's groups measurements. None of my business.

I look forward to seeing people achieve success with all their rifles and ammo.

(which reminds me, I have to get a scope on my old CZ 452 to see what it can do.....)

Is anyone questioning his largest group? Is his largest group over 1/2”? Not that it matters as he’s removed his post, but considering how childish and nitpicky some of you are I’m considering no longer monitoring the post. It’s supposed to be a fun challenge based on the honor system. If there was a mistake that’s one thing, but to call someone out and ##### about a group that doesn’t even affect the outcome or for that matter does not even affect anyone in general is a bit much.

Thanks Rod, you've just said what more than a few of us have been thinking.
Deadman's post below yours isn't wrong either.

50m Challenge

I can't speak for all shooters who have been challenging
themselves and do not have a target to submit here tho
for myself , I have been trying for at least 2 yrs. and not
had a target which qualifies.

It would be a loss if your thread was to leave or change.

...skwerl

Underthegun sir, you have my support. I enjoy this thread and appreciate your work very much.
Thanks
Gilbert

I recall a post in another thread not too long ago to the effect that "this forum has gone downhill lately". I can see why. I'm sorry there are those who don't know how to enjoy life and seem to want to spoil it for the rest of us. It'd be nice if the block function disabled them from viewing our posts rather than the other way around. In any case, the usual suspects are known for their, as you put it, "nitpicky childish behaviour". I recommend we all disregard these killjoys and carry on enjoying life as best we can. Thanks UTG for your work over the years maintaining this thread.

I certainly hope this thread moves on! And the effort over so many years from UTG is appreciated!

Here is a new success entry and a failed one.

Rifle: Anschutz 1416 HB G20
Scope: Arken EP5 5-25X FFP
Rest: Rempel bipod front, Protektor solid base rear bag.

Ammo: SK Rifle Match

Distance: 50 yards

Groupings shot from left to right
Group 1: 0.566" - 0.22" = 0.336"
Group 2: 0.541" - 0.22" = 0.321"
Group 3: 0.643" - 0.22" = 0.423" - Worst
Group 4: 0.452" - 0.22" = 0.232" - Best
Group 5: 0.621" - 0.22" = 0.401"

Average of all groups: 0.345"

It's hard to see the impacts in the 4th group, so close ups are attached to show the lead marks indicating 5 hits.

As for the unsuccessful try, Unique Model 66 Target Left Hand version with peep sights, and SK Rifle Match and RWS Rifle Match ammunition were used. I shot a few targets and this is the best one but the last group ruined the score. I will try again when it gets sunny again.

Great shooting again. I added you to the successful list.

Another entry.

Rifle: Unique T66 target, Left Hand.
Scope: N/A, peep sight used
Rest: Harris bipod front, Protektor solid base rear bag.

Ammo: SK Pistol Match

Distance: 50 yards

Tried different ammos and surprisingly SK Pistol Match worked the best.... The paper was tearing due to the humidity on the back board. The first group was just a hair under the limit - I can take this submission down and just shoot another one if anyone has question that it is over 0.5". Just need to find another sunny day!

The 4th group is difficult to see the impacts so a close up is attached to show the hits. Not very obvious due to the tearing paper.

Groupings shot from the right to the left
Group 1: 0.717" - 0.22" = 0.497" - Worst
Group 2: 0.600" - 0.22" = 0.380"
Group 3: 0.432" - 0.22" = 0.212"
Group 4: 0.372" - 0.22" = 0.152" - Best
Group 5: 0.660" - 0.22" = 0.440"

Average of all groups: 0.336"

Another entry.

Rifle: Tampereen Aspaja Finnbiathlon, left Hand. I think this rifle is sort of rare, would like to know if anyone else has one!
Scope: N/A, peep sight used
Rest: Rempel bipod front, me at the back - forgot to bring the rear bag.

Ammo: SK Rifle Match with the success target.

Distance: 50 yards

The targets at lower right was sight in and sight test. The lower left target was the first try but failed. Then the top right target was shot from the right to left, and looked okay. Then the top left target was shot from left to right with another ammo and it looked good until the caliper ruled it over 0.5". It appears that this Finnish rifle likes Finnish ammo!

Close up is attached to show the hits. Not very obvious due to the tearing/humid paper. And again, I will take this challenge down and just do it again if anyone has question about the grouping.

Groupings shot from the right to the left
Group 1: 0.654" - 0.22" = 0.434"
Group 2: 0.606" - 0.22" = 0.386"
Group 3: 0.439" - 0.22" = 0.219" - Best
Group 4: 0.689" - 0.22" = 0.469"
Group 5: 0.589" - 0.22" = 0.369"

Average of all groups: 0.3754"
