Makasi MK15 Canada live firing review part 1

This is great news. I can't wait to get mine. Most reviews online look more postivie. I can't get a iwi. I don't do plastic firearms. Nope.

I don't overly understand people's aversion to polymer since it touches literally every part of our life on a daily basis.

All correct, but not all polymers are the same. Certainly neither is steel, or wood for that matter, but I suppose what the main difference is is that steel and wood can be readily repaired...polymer, nah. Disposable heroes.

The Israli's know how to make arms. A lot of it cutting edge stuff so despite the fact that the Carmel was shelved for 5 or more years, it will be fine. Some of the older Chinese polymer I wouldn't trust past 2 or 3 years before it oxidizes to the point it becomes brittle.-Junk-. Then there's the 40 year old Glock Gen 1, like a timex, still tickin'.
 
I am not even sure that hairpin serves the purpose of "retaining" at all once the rifle get some rounds down range and the carbon starts building up. Like the BR180, think it is something that is a bit of a part that stops people from asking the question why the gas plug is not retained.

The problem is probably more about getting it out if it gets some serious carbon build up. With CZ and Carmel type regulator that is detented and pops out to the front, one can use a cartridge or even a gerber tool as leverage to loosen it like a "torque ranch". This is a very much time tested design.

The single flat head slot in the Makai probably need a long shafted flat head screw driver and the push rod removed first, to loosen it up and push it into the gas block. This is ok for sporting use but institutional users probably would not want this.

This is a bit of a compromise to have a selectable gas regulator for suppressor ( that wan't a problem with the original AR18) and a compact low receiver height design.
 
Maybe a silly question, but has anyone used borebutter in their piston guns?

I cast and used to fairly regularly shoot R.E.A.L. boolits in my muzzle loaders. When I heavy lube the boolits in borebutter, I can just keep shooting and shooting with no cleaning in between as the bore butter keeps all the carbon soft and grease like. For anyone who's shot black powder, it is remarkable to shoot all day without having to clean the fouling.

The pressures in the gas systems of smokeless guns are far higher than that of any muzzleloader, but has anyone tried it? Would grease keep things moving in between cleaning regimes?

IWI recommends not to lube their piston parts. Just clean.

Assume most piston guns are the same.

Are you just talking about lubing the bolt?

I wouldn't recommend lubing every 556 rnd

the barrel and gas system in a semi can get hot enough to polymerize oil, grease, wax or fats. that is much less of an issue in muzzle loaders.
fun fact: nitrocellulose based smokeless powder is a polymer and polymers can act as a catalyst in polymerization reactions.

The piston. Ex3dy has informed that it's not only a bad idea, it's also likely unnecessary.
 
The piston with short stroke push rod system - just keep shooting it until it gets noticeably slow. Otherwise it is just ritualistic cleaning.

The actual piston cup with vent holes will get hotso oil is useless. The push rod itself is exposed to the outside so dripping it in oil will just make it a sand magnet.

The best thing is not to do anything, and just make sure it gets dry whenever it gets wet.

Maybe it is really for launching rifle grenades?:cool: I was suspicious because the rifle was shipped in the "suppressed" setting, so I brought the hex key with me. So that cut down some of my range time to unscrew the hand guard and change the gas setting to "suppressed".

I had a Glock, sold it and bought a beretta, had bren 2 and tar21 and sold both of them. And now with all the bans, I wish I never sold em. Lesson learned, don't sell your firearms. I just can't stand poly firearms.

I'm really interested for more reviews.

Who was that guy who took firearms and ran thousands of rounds through them? The NEA/BCL failed miserably.
