I am curious as to why there would be a 2 month wait for an action? If I read things correctly you are assembling an action from outsourced parts? are you still going to one-off them or order runs of parts and have an inventory per-se? I would assume you would have an inventory of parts on hand so why the 8 weeks?
Sorry if I am asking a question already answered but I did not want to wade through 14 pages of replies, most of which have no value.
THIS is a good question.
I started this project almost 1 year ago.
Going through what features I wanted to incorporate, making certain that all would work in harmony, and consulting with various sources who already make various actions. Once I was sure it would likely work, started to look at the logistics, to spend in excess of 100K on machines knowing that the market is small is something that needs consideration.
It took 5 months to get the machine.
We were delayed as the shop was built in 1963, having to bring in a 200 amp service to run the new machines, necessitated rewiring most of the shop to 2008 code, this took 2 more months.
Now that we have actually had the machines in place here for a couple of weeks, we are running simple programs, and with good success.
The particular steel I want to use is not commonly available in Canada so have had to order it from the US, with luck we will have the bar stock in another month.
Meanwhile with Glenns help we have drafted the programs to produce the actions, final prototypes are a few weeks away. Being as the initial run is being made in the US, the prototypes must be submitted to BATF.
Once they have blessed them, we can start production.
The initial production is for about 100 actions in assorted bolt faces and lengths.
Once we get the actions into Canada, we can then submit them to the RCMP for approval, they may or may not actually want to physically handle them, hopefully photos will be sufficient.
Once production starts here, we will be making runs of the various actions, so time will be greatly reduced, the goal is to have some of everything on hand.
Hope that kind of explains the time thing.
